Top Q&A & Resources:

  • From your experience as a mother and a doctor, what recommendations do you have for parents to get their kids to learn resilience later in life?
    • “Oh, I love this question thank you so much for asking it because you have to let your kids be uncomfortable. It sounds like the worst answer ever–by the way, I have four kids. I totally get that feeling of empathy for any parent who’s watching their child struggle. But children need to be uncomfortable sometimes and start building their own list of positive and neutral coping mechanisms with your help. You can be really transparent about that you can have empathy for their discomfort without fixing it for them”.
  • I have trouble making choices and become paralyzed with a decision. Suggestions on taking action?
    • “So one of the things that really get people stuck with taking action is that they think, what if it’s the wrong choice, right? One tool that you can use is to ask yourself, sit down with a friend or a voice recorder, or a pen and paper, or whatever works for you and say, ‘Okay, what if it’s the wrong choice?’ Answer the questions for yourself honestly, and then pick something because, and this is the real kicker, not taking action is still making a decision.”
  • How do I beat procrastination?
    • “Often we procrastinate because it’s too big a chunk. So buying a new car is a big task. I’ve been procrastinating on this task for a year and a half. So what if I put it on my list to look for one consumer reports article about used cars online. It’s not buying a car but it’s one step. So the smaller steps you can break something down into, usually, your brain can navigate the change easier.”
