Worum es bei uns geht

A group primarily for watching non mainstream films. Anything that falls outside of the multiplex distribution network. Contemporary independent, classics, arthouse, cult, documentary, short films, avant-garde, world cinema. However you wish to define it! - Pick a film, watch it, discuss it over drinks. Manchester's got the excellent venue of Home / Cornerhouse, as well as lots of smaller film events that crop up over the year, so an ideal group to meet other cinema enthusiasts ...

A Thief's Daughter

HOME

Showing as part of the Viva Spanish Film Festival. This opening night film is a powerful first feature from Catalan director Belen Funes, starring Greta Fernandez as a painfully lonely young woman, living in Barcelona, and faced with the task of raising her infant son, whilst also taking care of her troubled younger brother. Financial troubles plus the arrival of her useless, unreliable father only add to her troubles. The film has drawn comparisons with the work of Ken Loach, and the Dardenne Brothers. Post screening Q&A with the director.
