IndieFlicks returns, offering the perfect balance of a social night out and blended with top drawer, festival quality short films from around the world!

Our night now runs on the first Sunday of the month at the MiniCine, found within the incredible Ducie Street Warehouse, Manchester.

You can expect a wonderfully varied selection of short films, of which you vote for your favourite on the night. Have your questions asked by programmed filmmakers or our special guests*, all the while enjoying a wide selection of food & drinks from the bar.

Then to round off, we will share our Director's Choice, a slightly longer short, selected by our judging panel.

Tickets are only available online through our website, so please do not turn up without booking first.

Doors to the cinema are at 19:30 but feel free to arrive earlier and enjoy food and drink from the bar/restaurant. Screening start time and last entry at 20:00

Raw and brutal in its depiction of Outback country drinking culture in the 1970s, Wake in Fright is an uncompromising landmark of Australian cinema.

John Grant, a bored schoolteacher working in the remote outback, stops overnight in the frontier mining town of Bundanyabba on his way back to Sydney for the Christmas holidays. After he loses all his savings in a bad gambling bet, Grant finds himself marooned and swept up in the vortex of a succession of hard-drinking, hard-living and crude men who threaten to make him just as crazy, drunk, and violent as they are.

Ignored upon release, Wake in Fright has now been acclaimed as one of Australia's most legendary, unique and horrifying contributions to cinema history by the likes of Martin Scorsese and Nick Cave. Warning: this film probably isn't for the squeamish, with one short scene of a kangaroo hunt which features real footage. You will need to book your own ticket. Meet in the bar downstairs. The film actually starts at 8:15.

Roslyn (Marilyn Monroe) is a beautiful but naïve woman, set adrift after a shotgun divorce. Guido and Gay are cowboys with a half-finished house in the sticks and bittersweet memories of a west that's no longer wild. And Perce is a rodeo-rocked bull rider, lost and looking for his next trip.

The Misfits is a haunting piece of Hollywood history, troubled on and off screen by the ghosts of eras gone by.

On the surface, John Huston's film is an off-beat drama of broken-hearted cowboys and broken-down marriages; of a dying American Dream and the lost souls struggling to keep it alive. Behind the scenes, the production itself was fraught. As well as contending with the searing heat of the desert and challenging production logistics, Marilyn Monroe’s own marriage to screenwriter Arthur Miller was in trouble, and the actor’s mental health was spiralling.

The film would be the last for both Monroe and her co-star Clark Gable (and Montgomery Clift only lived a few more years). Miller's script proved poignant and prophetic when it had one character, shotgun in hand, explain to the crew of horse wranglers gathered on the barren Nevada desert: "you'll probably never see this again in history, you know." The Misfits is a flawed classic that deserves serious reappraisal.
