Hey everyone,

this time we're hosted at the INNOQ Office in Cologne with the following talks/agenda:

• 18:30h – meet up, socialising, food & drinks

• 19:15h – Intro

• 19:30h - 20:45h with a little break in between: Vadym Kazulkin & Christian Bannes: “FaaS or not to FaaS. It's not a silver bullet!”

Serverless isn’t a silver bullet. I’ll provide decision checklist to figure out whether serverless it the right approach for your application or not which consists of understanding of your:

  • Application lifecycle
  • Workloads
  • Platform limitations
  • Cost at scale
  • Organizational knowledge

I will also discuss current challenges adopting serverless:

  • Lack of High Latency Ephemeral Storage
  • Poor Network performance
  • Missing Security Improvements

Vadym Kazulkin is Head of Technology Strategy at ip.labs GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of the FUJIFLM Group, based in Bonn. ip.labs is the world's leading white label e-commerce software imaging company. Vadym has been involved with the Java ecosystem for over twenty years. His focus and interests currently include the design and implementation of highly scalable and available applications, container and orchestration technologies, Serverless and AWS Cloud. Vadym is the co-organizer of the Java User Group Bonn and Serverless Bonn Meetup, and a frequent speaker on various Meetups and conferences.

Christian Bannes is lead developer at ip.labs and experienced java professional. He is passionate about designing scalable and performant cloud architectures on AWS. With his team he adopted AWS serverless technologies a few years ago which enabled the team members to focus on business objectives and allowed them to deliver incredibly cost effective solutions that scale effortlessly.

Wir testen einen neuen Stack: Kunde wünscht sich eine Planet-Scale WebApp, die soll er bekommen. Ein Erfahrungsbericht, wie man mit Next.js und dem Serverless Framework eine SPA baut, welche in Sachen Performance keine Wünsche übrig lässt, wie man es debuggt wenn es mit dem Deployment hakt und wann so eine Anwendung eine gute Idee ist.

Sebastian Janzen ist Entwickler und Senior Consultant bei INNOQ. Er arbeitet mit Web-Technologien seit 2007. Seit einiger Zeit widmet er sich Internet of Things Projekten wie Eclipse SmartHome und agiert im Frontend- sowie Backend.
