Welcome to Berlin Software Design — a community for engineers and architects who want to sharpen their software design and architecture skills through practice, discussion, and collaboration.
We focus on learning by doing: software architecture katas, design challenges, system walkthroughs, and peer feedback sessions. Each meetup is a chance to tackle real-world design problems, share approaches, and improve how we think and communicate about architecture.

Leetcode Grinding Session (medium level: 5&4 kyu)
·OnlineOnlineWe take turns, one member acts as the coder sharing their screen while the rest of us guide the solution.
We use Codewars.com instead of Leetcode. Codewars is perfect for this format — after solving a kata, you can explore community-ranked solutions, seeing how others approached the same problem.
#### What to expect:
- We will solve several Codewars problems together
- Each coder takes a turn while the group collaborates
- After each problem, we review top community solutions and discuss what we learned
#### What you’ll need:
- A Codewars account (free)
- A stable internet connection
- Willingness to engage, discuss, and share insights

[System design] Data modelling exercise
·OnlineOnlineWe look at several system design challenge. For each of them, we only do the database modelling part: what tables are needed, what indexes does each table need, and how are the tables partitioned to support the most used queries.
System design challenges: we use the exercises from hellointerview:
We will use only relational databases (SQL)
What We’ll Do:
We read the requirements for each application, and we propose a solution for:- the database model – what tables should there be
- the needed indexes – what indexes should each table have
- how to partition data – in order to best support the most common queries
Today we will also ask an LLM to design a DB schema. After all schema are presented, we are going to use a checklist for possible improvements, taken from here
