Hello and welcome,

This is a support group for survivors from discovery to recovery of narcissistic abuse, whether it be from a parent, sibling, partner, friend, or colleague.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder is a criteria based diagnosis in the DSM 5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). NPD is rarely diagnosed, as the narcissist believes “there’s nothing wrong with me and it’s everybody else who is at fault. It's usually the victim that presents at therapy. If you’ve been around someone who gaslights you, has frightening rages at perceived slights, you feel like you are walking on eggshells, belittles you, is very controlling, has delusions of grandeur, thinks they are better than everyone else, creates a smear campaign against you if you question their character, has a charming/caring side to the outside world which makes you question your sanity and beliefs, you have very possibly encountered someone with NPD.

The abuse is insidious and erodes the victim's sense of self, you feel trapped in the FOG (fear, obligation and guilt) you know there is something very wrong but make excuses to justify the emotionally manipulative abuse.

The journey from discovery to recovery can be very frightening, isolating and extremely difficult to articulate to anyone who has been fortunate enough not to have encountered a narcissist.

A fellow survivor wrote "I fully understand the roller coaster of emotions and sense of isolation we can experience, as we are often called crazy, hyper-sensitive and gaslighted along the way. I believe a key part of the healing process is to exchange personal stories with those who have an understanding of the pain that narcissistic abuse can cause. This validation is often of vital importance in our recovery process from narcissistic abuse". I absolutely second that statement and hence the beginning of Discovery to Recovery of Narcissistic Abuse support group.

I hope this group can help give you comfort from knowing you are not alone and you are not going crazy! We are here to support you along the road from discovery to recovery to thriving, from this insidious, misunderstood, personality disorder.
