Über uns

The world is growing smaller every day.  In today’s increasingly global culture, we all need to become familiar with other traditions, and literature provides an exciting and enjoyable mode of entry into the variety of the world’s cultures. A group for bibliophiles that focuses on world literature, that seeks to go beyond white Eurocentric or America-centric viewpoints, but also with an interest in some major children’s classics, folktales and non-fiction, to set off on a quest to discover grand books and deepen our understanding of our complex world. For this reason, we’ll be reading the world in alphabetical order. We are busy with letter A at the moment! Some readings will take place while enjoying the cuisine of the country in question—don't miss our Angolan lunch and trip to Luanda in November. There'll be a quiz at the end of every discussion.

Each country’s series will consist of:

-In-person fiction book discussion
-Online fiction book discussion
-In-person non-fiction discussion
-Online Q&A with some authors/
translators/journalists (when possible)
-Online film discussion
-Folktales with lunch (gastronomy of the country)
-Trip to the country (when possible)
