A lot of innovation in our industry happens in the "big five" companies. And if an engineer from Google or Netflix shares their expertise at a conference, we, engineers in "normal companies," are listening for sure! But does it always make sense to apply the same processes, architectural approaches, and frameworks as tech giants? Maybe the problem Facebook is solving with some solution doesn't even exist in your app. Let's discuss if a couple of modern "best practices" established by large applications (in some form) offer good trade-offs for your application.
