Worum es bei uns geht

A meetup for the concept, design and making of musical instruments – physical and digital – at the Soundbrenner Office in Berlin.

We had the idea to get some great engineers, designers, and musicians together and see if we can come up with some ideas for novel musical instruments, and then go ahead and actually build them!

The meetup is free for all, but you need some basic technical understanding. Some electronic components can be provided to get you started, as well as concept and design advice regarding electronics, making, and software development. The Fab Lab Berlin offers us the space in hope that we'll use their resources to build our instruments: 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC milling, textile, electronics. The goal of this meetup is to get a group of enthusiasts together, have fun tinkering on projects beyond the beginner level, and ultimately to found a band using only self made instruments.

MIM Berlin (Musical Instrument Maker Meetup)

Soundbrenner GmbH

Our monthly Musical Instrument Maker Meetup and workshop. We discuss ideas of novel musical instruments – it doesn't matter if they're physical, analogue, or digital. Every month we work hands-on on a collaborative project, where everybody is invited to participate and learn. You can also come to us with your personal project or get inspired to start a new thing on your own. We provide help with concept, interaction design, hardware design, electronics, software development, and of course there are musicians eager to test out your instrument! The meetup is a free event, and it is free for anyone to join. It is a plus if you already have at least some basic experience with, e.g, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Axoloti or Bela, and some programming language (can be visual, like Pure Data). We would like to especially encourage female participants to join, the music technology scene needs you! See you there!
