July Members Talk evening with Kraken Technology

Details

Hi PyLadies Berlin! In this event hosted by Kraken, we will discuss the new AI technologies flooding the tech industry in the past year or so. From Chatgpt to Copilot, what are you using in your day-to-day? How can you leverage these tools for your learning goals, or help you develop projects you would otherwise not start?

We will show you some ways we have been using Large Language models, how to import models into your code and build quick prototypes for projects and discuss the concerns and reasons why Generative AI might not be the solution you need or should rely on.

Whether you are an AI fanatic, concerned about how these tools work, unsure how to get started or disagree with AI making its way into so many tools/products come along and share your experience and thoughts on this topic, which, no matter how your feel about it has certainly made an impact in our industry.

💘 Ana Paula Gomes (she/her) - Another Bot Story: A Valentine’s Day Gift to My Girlfriend Using Github Copilot Workspace
Although the background is a love story, this is actually a story about the exciting and challenging aspects of developing a small project with Github Copilot Workspace. At the end of the presentation, we will have a live demo and discuss the role that tools like this can play in the development process and what is left for us to do in a world full of AI products.

👩‍💻 Ana is a senior software engineer with experience in various industries and a passion for open source. Currently, she is doing her PhD at the Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Public Health Research at the Robert Koch Institute.

Jessica Greene (she/her) - How I use generative AI and ML in my work and side projects and why I think you should too!
In this session, I will share how I have approached learning the foundations of Machine Learning to transition into a role as an ML engineer, despite my non-traditional background. How I use chatgpt and other generative AI tools to assist both at work and on my side projects. The pros and cons I see of using these tools and why I think it's important we take notice of these technologies.

Level: all, feel free to bring your laptop with you if you wish to try out some of the things a will demonstrate.

👩‍💻 Jessica is a senior Machine Learning Engineer at Ecosia, the search platform for a better planet. A self-taught/community-taught developer she switched from being a Coffee Roaster to programming in 2018 and hasn't looked back. Alongside her day job she enjoys supporting the community and was recently awarded the Outstanding PyLadies Award. When not at the computer she knits, builds lego and enjoys reading on her balcony.

🤖 Katja Wittfoth (she/her) - Prompt Engineering: Emerging Techniques from Recent Research Papers
In this talk, I will explore prompt engineering, a key part of gen AI systems. We will discuss how to create effective prompts, how these methods have evolved, and what are the new finding from the recent research. The main focus will be on text-based prompting techniques such as Few-shot Prompting, Chain of Thought (CoT), and various reasoning and decomposition methods.

👩‍💻 Katja is a Machine Learning Engineer visiting from San Francisco. She has worked at YC and a16z-backed Silicon Valley startups and has a Master's in Data Science & Machine Learning from USF. Katja is currently between jobs and advising early-stage startups on AI as well as mentoring data professionals.
