I've been pretty sedentary this year so I'm looking for ways to get moving again. This is an easy walk in a very pretty setting. The full trail is about 2 miles. In the past, with all the gabbing and pausing to take pictures of cranes and geese, it's taken about an hour (ish) to walk the perimeter trail.

Please wear comforable walking shoes and weather appropriate clothing. It's NM, folks, that means layers. Hats, gloves, walking sticks, whatever you feel you need. Water either with you on the walk or in your car after - please don't get dehydrated.

No dogs, please. This is a very popular trail and there are always dogs on it. However, not all our members are comfortable with dogs, so let's include them.

Please park in the lot on the south side of the fields. The entrance is off Montano.

The El Malpais is full of petroglyhs, pictoglyphs, pottery, and ruins, we'll be looking for this and more in the area near the top of Armijo Canyon. We'll enter the canyon from the Sand Canyon road and explore it's upper regions. I was just up in that area on 14 March and it looked very promising, but you never can tell what you might or might not find. Total driving distance of about 100 miles one way. The route is paved except for the last 4-6 miles which is decent gravel then crappy sand/dirt road. AWD or 4x4 vehicles will be required to make this event. Wet weather will make it VERY difficult to access the area and we'll move to a lava hike nearby. Total hiking distance of around 5-8 miles, mostly bush whacking. Total elevation gain of maybe 500 feet. NO DOGS or WHINERS. I would rate this event as STRENOUS due to it's exploratory nature. Come prepared with plenty of water and snacks for a long day of hiking. Be prepared to reimburse your drivers at the rate of $.10 per mile round trip or about $20 for the day. For more information, ask your questions below and I'll answer below. OUR “OFFICIAL” START TIME IS 1:00. HOWEVER, as an option, you can arrive by 12:30 for “early bowling”. This option is a courtesy to those who live further away to avoid being stuck in rush hour traffic when done bowling. I arrive at 12:30. (For this reason, I indicate a 12:30 start time as part of the general event info.) I post our lane assignments in the event comments section as soon as they are provided to me.

Rental shoes are available; all bowlers must wear bowling shoes. Upon completion of each bowlers play, please go to the front desk and pay for your games (and shoe rental).

RSVPs are appreciated, as it helps to obtain enough lanes; lane availability is on a first-come-first-serve basis. Our bowlers typically play 2-4 games.

For Mondays affected by a Federal holiday, on which school is typically closed, the event date will be cancelled. (On those days, it is often difficult to obtain lanes and, especially, get lanes near each other.) This is why these event dates are skipped in the Albuquerque Singles Group Events Calendar.
