Details

The Global Day of Coderetreat 2023 is a full-day practice event where developers of all experience levels meet and hone their craft by repeatedly implementing the same small coding exercise via test-driven design and pair or ensemble programming.

What are the learning goals of Coderetreat?

  • Use deliberate practice to explore new techniques
  • Learn from other software developers by writing readable and well-designed code together
  • Take risks and experiment
  • Have fun!

What should you bring?

  • An open mind
  • Willingness to share and learn together

What will the agenda of the day be?

Code of Conduct

We are dedicated to creating an event where everybody can learn, teach, share, network and have a good time.

We need your help to achieve that. We expect you to behave according to our Code of Conduct - both at the event and in all discussions around the event (online and offline).

If someone tells you that they were harmed by what you said or did, stand back, believe them and take a moment to reflect. Even if you find yourself not understanding their reasoning, your best reply to that is taking a deep breath and just saying "sorry". That's the baseline of mindfulness and empathy we'd like to see at the conference.

You can find the full Code of Conduct here, please read it:

Inclusivity measures

We strive to make this event accessible to a broad audience, especially to people who might be underrepresented in tech. The following measures are taken to make the event as inclusive as possible:

  • We follow and enforce a Code of Conduct
  • The location will be equipped with gender-neutral toilets
  • Entrance to the event will be based on presenting a negative Hightop SARS-Covid-2 Antigen test that will be provided at the entrance
  • At the event, we will supply SWS-Medicare PROTECT FFP2 NR masks for free (though we do not enforce wearing them)
  • The event does not cost anything for participants
  • There will be no need to identify yourself with a passport or id card at the event
  • The event space is wheelchair accessible with wheelchair-accessible toilets
  • Lunch will be vegan

There are also some measures we would love to but currently cannot take for the event due to monetary constraints. If they are important for you, please reach out and we will see what we can do:

  • There won’t be sign language translation or subtitles
  • The event might be noisy and a bit chaotic
  • Toilets are not wheelchair accessible
  • Food will not be provided based on individual dietary needs

In case there are any questions or support needed, please do not hesitate to contact us with the event message button.

COVID-19-Sicherheitsmaßnahmen

Event findet in einem Gebäude statt
We try to make this event inclusive also for people who need to be especially careful around COVID. Therefore, we will ask everyone to take one of the Hightop SARS-Covid-2 Antigen tests that we will provide at the entrance, and will only allow entrance with a negative test. The office space itself is ventilated with 1-1.5 air exchanges per hour. We do not prescribe wearing masks, but will offer masks and encourage those who prefer to wear a mask to wear one. We will encourage participants to take an additional test two days before the event, but will not enforce or control this.
