Taboos. A Primer.

So. Let’s begin, shall we?

Given the fact that we’re not quite out of this whole global pandemic business, the first meetup will take place outdoors, at Hasenheide park in Kreuzberg, BYOB (Bring Your Own Blanket). I will be checking in on the requirements for social gatherings over the next weeks to make sure we’re keeping with the corona rules. Since we’re in a park this time around, BYOR (bring-your-own-refreshments) is also not a bad idea.

This will be a bit of a topic collection event. Although I’ve got a huge list of things I’d like to put on the table for future discussions, I think a bit of a ‘what-do-we-get-nervous-about’ round table would be a great start.

Here’s a few taboo/often forbidden topics I’ve come up with so far, if anyone feels like posting additional themes in the conversation below, feel free.

sex (of course)
death (of course)
rock’n’roll (oh, why not?)
socialising (how-to, why-bother, etc.)
hypocrisy
consumerism
religion
extremism
computers taking over the world (perhaps not taboo, but makes me nervous nonetheless)
accountability
‘free’ culture
loneliness
grieving
money
grieving about (lack of) money
embarrassment about (too much) money
(what to do with) money (besides giving it to me ;) )
disabilities (living with, talking about)
relationship models (the ones for which you cannot find a hallmark card)

Given that meetups can be painful like high-school dances, with no one trusting themselves to step first onto the dance floor, I’ll do my best to bring a few conversational titbits to get us going.
