(Strangers talk about) Parents.

(Strangers talk about) Parents.

Details

Discussions about parents tend to revolve around (and take place between) people who are trying to figure out how to be them, not about the things people secretly struggle with as a result of having them.
So, even though the subject of ‘parents’ is not taboo perse, our behavioural dynamics with and because of those who raised us is not generally something strangers discuss. This doesn’t mean it’s not rife with fodder for human(e) dialogue. So THAT’s what we’re gonna talk about!

A few random/possibly relevant questions:

  • As adults, what have you noticed in your own life (or the life of those around you) that comes from your (their) upbringing?
  • What do you as an adult expect from your parents (and/or what is expected from you of them)? Do you find it fair/unfair?
  • Boundaries (between kids and parents). Are they necessary? Beneficial?

Those with kids will have an extra-special perspective on this, and are more than welcome to weigh in from both ends.

As always, both personal anecdotes and fictitious ones are welcome; Our end goal is to generate a philosophical conversation, gathering the perspectives of others and address questions and concerns about the given topic, not to plumb the depths of peoples’ private lives.
