Everything is ready for a term with a great selection of varied and beautiful tunes. During our sessions we will learn several songs from the Latin American and Spanish Folk tradition. You **don't** need to speak the language to sing it. Lyrics are provided. We will be exploring different rhythms, styles, melodies and themes with the selected tunes for this term. The learning process is done by ear. We're really excited to be organising a brilliant free event with three incredible authors, Katherine Faulkner, Emily Freud and Mel Pennant. Following up from last's year International Women's Day event we have a female led panel where, Katherine Faulkner, Emily Freud and Mel Pennant will delve into the art of crime writing — from building tension and crafting unforgettable characters to reflecting social currents in fiction that keeps us turning pages late into the night. The Golden Hinde was first English Ship to sail around the world, captained by Sir Francs Drake in the Elizabethan era. Besides hearing us, and joining in singing the choruses, you can also explore the ship. And for your further convenience, there is an on board bar with wine and beer at pub prices, and a flushing WC or two. We have been performing here for a year. All these events sold out weeks before we performed. We have had top class guests who were lively, and all joined in singing the choruses, Tickets are £10 plus booking fee, and the link is below. The ship is currently in dry dock undergoing hull maintenance, and you can reach it by going to London Bridge Underground station, and from there it's five minute walk walk through Borough Market. Exploring the musical archives with captivation at both a very young age and later as music radio presentator, club DJ & musicologist - I discovered only snippets of an estimated 97 million songs even though I went all the way back to the 17th century! If you love music, then you'll know it's not just entertainment but a spritual soulful experiene ("I hear my compositions as a single point of light, all I do is hold that point of light in my mind whilst I write it down" Wolfgang Mozart) So let's immense ourselves in our passion by enjoying music, singing, dancing with drinks in hand whilst broadening our music knowledge and exposure by discovering new material, artists and even genres at fun musically themed night out for passionate music lovers in the UK home of rock n roll - Camden of course! Contemporary or old - you must be passionate about music which means you will be prepared to talk about your favourite song(s) and or artist(s), influences and underlying reasons at ease. What is it that makes them stand out and unique? Does the song have personal relevance to you? Are the lyrics poetic or a philosophical masterpiece like in some old hip-hop or is it about the sound of the vocals or hypnotic melodies? Did the song (or artist) play a pivotal role in shaping political change & influence in society (yes some musicians have even died for their artform) or the evolution of new music genres, sub cultures and underground music movements today? Was Lennon & McCartney the greatest ever singer song writer combo or have you heard better? Who are the best all time music producers & song writers - Max Martin, Billy Joel, George Martin, Quincy Jones, Bernie Taupin, Dr Dre, Carole King? Did PWL records destroy the British music scene or contribute to it? We can also touch on influential music producers, labels, DJs and radio stations as well. Discussion on all elements of musicology and enablers is up for grabs. If you can - come prepared with links to samples (feel free to post youtube and other links in the comments section below) to demonstrate or be willing to sing/rap some lyrics so we can get an idea. Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 7:00pm on Wednesday, April 22 at Streetlight Guild. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. **SCHEDULE:** 6:45ish - Quick introductions 7:00 - Timer starts: write for 1 hour 8:00 - The End **OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING** happens before and after the writing hour. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing. **BEING LATE IS OKAY:** just show up and get settled! That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
