We are the Charlotte chapter of the international Hash House Harriers (CH3), which is an adult-humored, non-competitive running group. "A Drinking club with a running problem" Hashing is a mixture of athleticism and sociability, fun having and hard work; a refreshing break from the nine-to-five routine. Hashing is an exhilaratingly fun combination of r\*nning, orienteering, and partying, where bands of Harriers and Harriettes chase Hares on two to four mile trails through town, country, jungle, and desert, all in search of exercise, camaraderie, and good times. The irreverent group typically gets together to humorously note on-trail misbehavior with tongue-in-cheek drinking songs and “down downs”. We meet up at 2 PM on Saturdays and go on a scavenger hunt through the woods and town, for beers that have been hidden by one of our members. Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
