Hi and welcome to our next Socrates Café philosophy meetup! Do you have a hunger for deeper understanding of yourself and the world? Do you value deep, honest and respectful dialogue? If yes, then this meetup will be very interesting for you. • WHAT IS A MEETUP ABOUT? We ask, answer and discuss questions and ideas to stimulate critical thinking and to widen our perspectives with new concepts and thoughts. The main purpose of these meetups is to enrich ourselves with the perspectives of others, not to convince others about our own perspectives. Our meetups are about our own philosophies of life and not necessarily what the great philosophers and academics have said or written. It is not a debating club or a platform for proselytizing. Instead, we place the emphasis on questioning, open mindedness and challenging our own assumptions while listening to and respecting the views shared by others. A Socrates Café meetup is considered a success when participants leave a discussion with many more questions than they had at the beginning. • WHAT TOPIC IS DISCUSSED AT THE MEETUP? Participants suggest topics at the beginning of each meeting. We then vote and choose that event's most popular topic for discussion. No academic training in philosophy necessary; just enthusiasm for exchanging ideas and points of view. Some examples of subjects chosen on previous meetups: * What ideals are worth dying for? * Why are we never satisfied? * Why is it that human beings know that the society is going wrong, leaders are well informed about it and things continue as is? * Is identity necessary? * How can it be that people in democratic societies are so obsessed with power? Our events gather people from different backgrounds, different cultures, while no philosophical background is mandatory. **🏛️ WHAT'S PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY ABOUT?** Practical Philosophy is a weekly meet-up that brings critical thinkers together for an opportunity to dive deep on a topic, practice communicating, and building a community. All with no ‘official’ philosophy knowledge required! 😎 Practical Philosophy is based on the idea that philosophy should be accessible to all, and not something reserved only for academics. Each week we choose a topic, and the goal is to use the conversation to develop our critical thinking and communication as we explore that topic. The goal is to help develop our Critical Thinking, Communication, and Community 🙌 **📓 HOW DOES IT WORK?** Each week, we pick one topic and discuss it. The topic for the week is shared, generally in the [Whatsapp group](https://chat.whatsapp.com/LAtygOTKzmf1SnQKzJl68Z), along with jump-off points to get the conversation going. When groups get bigger than 6-8 people, it’s important that we break into smaller groups. This way we are able to maintain a conversational flow as opposed to having our meetups feel like a discourse or lecture. **General Meeting Agenda** Each Practical Philosophy meet-up follows this general timeline: * 19:30-19:45 - People arrive and chat, get to know each other before the official start. * 19:45-19:55 - Meeting introduction, explanation of Practical Philosophy and the topic for the week, read the guidelines and the overview so attendees know what to expect in terms of timelines. * 19:55-21:15 - Break into small groups - introduce yourselves and general thoughts on the topic, open discussion afterwards. At this point the group can review the ‘jump-off’ questions as needed, but they are just there to help guide the conversation. It’s not obligatory to answer them. * 21:15-21:30 - Bring everyone back together to discuss conclusions of the topic - each group gives a short 1-minute summary. This group inline skating class is designed for beginners and early-level skaters who want to build confidence, improve balance, and master essential skating skills in a fun and supportive environment. Kassy was a professional ice skater with Disney on Ice and has been skating since she was 2 years old. We’ll focus on the fundamentals that make skating feel smooth and controlled, including proper stance, weight distribution, and balance while moving. You’ll learn how to start, glide, turn, and stop safely, along with simple drills to improve coordination and stability on your skates. The class progresses at a comfortable pace, with clear demonstrations and individual feedback to help each participant feel steady and confident. Whether you’re brand new to rollerblading or returning after a break, this session will help you develop strong basics and feel more in control on wheels. Classes are predominantly held in English, though Kassy speaks French and Spanish too. We will meet at Moll de Bosch i Alsina, on the pavement beneath the red bridge (Puente móvil rojo). No advanced experience required - please bring your own skates. AI is making decisions, generating content, and raising questions we haven't legislated yet, including one that once seemed purely philosophical: can an AI have rights? Recent studies show we're already trusting AI more than our own judgment, with critical thinking declining the more we rely on it. Meanwhile, violations are shaping legislation instead of the other way around, and the fences we're building may already be too late. This is a conversation about accountability, consciousness, and what happens when no one is checking if the rules actually work, or if there is even any rule at all. En cada reunión tenemos una discusión usando el método socrático: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socratic_method Hacemos, respondemos y discutimos preguntas e ideas para estimular el pensamiento crítico y ampliar nuestras perspectivas con algunos conceptos y pensamientos en los que nunca hemos pensado. El objetivo principal de estos encuentros es enriquecernos con las perspectivas de los demás, no convencer a los demás sobre nuestras propias perspectivas. Nuestras reuniones son sobre nuestras propias filosofías de la vida y no necesariamente lo que los grandes filósofos y académicos han dicho o escrito. No es un club de debate o una plataforma para hacer proselitismo. En cambio, ponemos énfasis en cuestionar, tener una mentalidad abierta y desafiar nuestras propias suposiciones mientras escuchamos y respetamos las opiniones compartidas por otros. Una reunión de Socrates Café se considera un éxito cuando los participantes dejan una discusión con muchas más preguntas de las que tenían al principio. 5. ¿QUÉ TEMA SE DISCUTE EN EL MEETUP? This session introduces Squad: an open-source framework for multi-agent orchestration that lets you define teams of AI agents with specific roles, responsibilities, and expertise. We'll progress from Copilot basics to the Copilot CLI, explore how Agents add autonomy, and see how Instructions and Skills let you customize agent behavior. The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event. We will be hearing from Becca Powell, Director of Advocacy and Outreach at Unchained At Last, an organization whose mission is dedication to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and systems change. Unchained At Last's mission clearly meshes and addresses several of our Humanist Ten Commitments. Becca will educate us about an issue many of us may not be familiar with--but should be.
