Sunday Scribbles (Free-writing Time)
Get ready creative writers! Inkwell is proud to announce Sunday Scribbles, our latest event for the Shanghai writing community.
Sunday Scribbles is a low stress gathering for your Sunday afternoon creative writing. Join us to work, chat, and write to your heart's content. (Mostly write, though). Add Ryan (WechatID: texaswriter) to figure out where we are meeting this week and to ask any questions. I don't keep Meetup very up to date and everything Inkwell does is organized through wechat groups, so even if the number of attendees is low, there's likely an event still going on. Add Ryan, and you can join the wechat group where everything is happening.
Some Frequently Asked Questions:
What do we do here?: Mostly write and work quietly with some chatting
What to bring?: Something to work on
What we don't do?: Edit things for you, serve as writing consultants
What does it cost?: Free, but please order something to support the venue.
What is Inkwell?: There's a lot of information about the workshop located on the website: www.inkwell.asia.
Meet Writing Workshop veterans and other Workshoppers for the latest info on writing prompts and activities. It's also the perfect chance to make the Sunday night deadline for that week's Writing Workshop.
Sunday Scribbles is organized by Paula Willis who has been in Shanghai since early 2018 and a member of the writing group since fall 2019.
Bring something to write with and we'll see you there!
The Fiction Workshop
Welcome to the Shanghai Writing Workshop. We are interested in everything related to creative writing, and we hope you can join us.
If you're interested in joining, you'll need to join our wechat chat group to let us know if you're lost on your way to the meeting. You can wechat me at texaswriter, and I can get you added. I also encourage you to scan the QR code above to join our official wechat channel. There you can get detailed directions on how to find us, how to sign up for our website (www.shanghaiwriting.com), and details on how we function.
There's a new short prompt available on the website that's updated for each meeting. Try and post a response a few days before meeting if you want others a chance to comment on it.
You also don't have to submit. Readers are always welcome, but I do find that reading before meeting greasy increases the joy of going to meeting.
No experience required. We are a mixed group in terms of experience, backgrounds, and languages, but I find that we are also very supportive of each other in everything from goals to reading to publishing.
In addition to the standard workshop, the Shanghai Writing Workshop hosts two writing retreats a year, puts forward a team for the three day novel writing competition, hosts a reading series called Shanghai Voices, and puts together an ebook anthology of work at the end of every year. We're always doing something, and if you have any ideas, we're always up for anything literature related.
Once again, if you need help getting setup, contact me on wechat, texaswriter, and I hope to see you at the workshop.

Plant -Based & Mindful Eating in Shanghai
We are delighted to introduce **Dasein Saturday Lunch Gathering**, born from our deep exploration of the sacred bond between food and spiritual practice.
This is a weekly bilingual gathering for mindful connection, hosted in our private kitchen and exclusive lounge. Closed to the general public, each session is limited to just 15 seats to ensure an intimate atmosphere — and every plant-based meal is specially crafted by a **Michelin-starred chef**, blending nourishment with culinary artistry. Our guests are like-minded souls who pursue spiritual growth, inner awakening, and conscious living. Connection • Culture • Wellness • Awakening — these are our core values and shared purpose.
## Why Plant-Based?
More people are moving away from animal products and embracing sustainable living—not as a passing trend, but as an inner awakening. Drawing on holistic wisdom from Dr. John Dingyi Young, Anthony William, Dr. Greger, Dr. Xu Jia, and the profound insights of *Man’s Higher Consciousness*, we journey from physical healing to expanded awareness.
This is far more than “what we eat.” It is about honoring our bodies, respecting the planet, and cherishing the life in every bite. Our lunch gathering is a gateway: through mindful eating, we nourish the body, heal the soul, and awaken to a more conscious way of living.
## Event Details:
**Time**: Saturday\, April 25 \| 12:00–14:00
**Location**: Kingboard Plaza, 269 Tongxie Road, Changning District, Shanghai
**Language**: Bilingual (English & Chinese)
**Fee**: No registration fee; minimum one plant-based set meal (¥158) order per person.

Historic Zhang's Garden reopens as a boutique destination
Zhangyuan, or Zhang's Garden, opened in 1885 as China's first modern pleasure garden, but it later decayed into a neighborhood of dilapidated houses. Its former glory has now been restored in the latest round of urban renewal.
Zhang Yuan, a community of hundreds of shikumen (a style featuring Western and Chinese elements) houses in downtown Shanghai's Jing'an district, reopen to the public on Dec 1 2022 after four years of protective renovation.
Zhang Yuan, a community of hundreds of shikumen (a style featuring Western and Chinese elements) houses in downtown Shanghai's Jing'an district, will partially reopen to the public on Dec 1 after four years of protective renovation.
Located just off Nanjing Road West at the corner of Taixing Road and Wujiang Road, Zhang Yuan - or Zhang's Garden - is widely known as Shanghai's largest, best-preserved and most diverse shikumen compound.
The compound was named after its founding owner Zhang Shuhe (1850-1919), a merchant from Wuxi in Jiangsu province. Zhang had bought a piece of farmland in Shanghai from a Briton named Francis Groom before building a garden home for his mother.

In Principles, Dalio shares what he’s learned over the course of his remarkable career. He argues that life, management, economics, and investing can all be systemized into rules and understood like machines. The book’s hundreds of practical lessons, which are built around his cornerstones of “radical truth” and “radical transparency,” include Dalio laying out the most effective ways for individuals and organizations to make decisions, approach challenges, and build strong teams. He also describes the innovative tools the firm uses to bring an idea meritocracy to life, such as creating “baseball cards” for all employees that distill their strengths and weaknesses, and employing computerized decision-making systems to make believability-weighted decisions. While the book brims with novel ideas for organizations and institutions, Principles also offers a clear, straightforward approach to decision-making that Dalio believes anyone can apply, no matter what they’re seeking to achieve.
Here, from a man who has been called both “the Steve Jobs of investing” and “the philosopher king of the financial universe” (CIO magazine), is a rare opportunity to gain proven advice unlike anything you’ll find in the conventional business press.
Ray Dalio is the founder and mentor of Bridgewater Associates, which, over the last forty years, has become the largest and best performing hedge fund in the world. He is the author of [#1]() New York Times Bestseller and [#1]() Amazon Business Book of the Year, Principles. Dalio has appeared on the Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world as well as the Bloomberg Markets list of the 50 most influential people. He lives with his family in Connecticut.
桥水基金:他创立的对冲基金,管理资产峰值超过1600亿美元,是全世界最大的对冲基金;
两次"史诗级"预测:1987年精准预测美股崩盘,2008年金融危机前提前布局,为客户赚得盆满钵满;

Frequently asked questions:

**How can I contribute to the discussion if I haven’t read the book?**

A monthly healing space where we gather to tend the pieces of ourselves and weave them back into wholeness that we are. Each session opens with a Soulbits oracle image setting the tone for the gathering we will move through. We will come together to honor the natural rhythms of rooting, rising, releasing, and receiving; the cycles that shape the soul’s journey.
Through the four pillars of being: mindset, movement, connection & nourishment, we will create a space where imagery, sensation, and community weave together. Where the body becomes the guide, images act as mirrors, and the soul speaks. This circle is about noticing what rises, honoring what’s true, and reconnecting with the parts of yourself ready to be seen.
This is a space to gather your scattered pieces, soften your body, and return to your truth with community by your side. Soulbits Circle is a reminder that every fragment of your story, every soulbit, belongs. Together we weave them into the blooming wholeness that you are.

Shut Up & Write!® East Side Columbus
Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 7:00pm on Wednesday, February 11 at Streetlight Guild.
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
**SCHEDULE:**
6:45ish - Quick introductions
7:00 - Timer starts: write for 1 hour
8:00 - The End
**OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING** happens before and after the writing hour. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.
**BEING LATE IS OKAY:** just show up and get settled! If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.
Happy writing & I look forward to seeing you at Streetlight Guild!
**WHAT SHOULD I BRING?**
Whatever you need to be able to write! You're welcome to bring earplugs/headphones if noise will bother you!
**OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS:**
* **RSVP:** Please RSVP by 6:00pm the evening of the meeting. This helps me know how many to expect, and if we'll need additional space!
* **COVID:** While masks are not required, please be mindful of the other writers around you and their comfort levels.
* **WIFI/OUTLETS:** Outlets are limited, so please ensure your devices are charged when you come! But Streetlight Guild does have free WiFi! Yay!
* **PARKING:** There is free public parking at Streetlight Guild.
