Au cour de ce système, la magnétosphère - un bouclier magnétique naturel - nous protège des particules chargées émises par le Soleil - le vent solaire - généralement maintenues à distance par une frontière appelée magnétopause. 🛰️ Cependant, sous certaines conditions, les champs magnétiques du Soleil et de la Terre peuvent s'interconnecter, créant des brèches dans la magnétopause. Ces ouvertures permettent alors aux particules solaires énergétiques de pénétrer dans notre environnement spatial. L'intensité et la fréquence de ces phénomènes de reconnexion magnétique varient en fonction de l'activité solaire.
