Many experts believe **Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)** — AI that could outperform humans in most intellectual tasks — may emerge within decades, or possibly sooner. This raises important questions: * Could AGI bring major scientific progress and prosperity? * What risks might arise if powerful AI systems are not aligned with human values? * How should society prepare for such transformative technologies? Researchers and organizations such as the Future of Life Institute and the Machine Intelligence Research Institute study these issues under the fields of **AGI risk** and **AI alignment**. Yet these discussions often remain limited to experts. The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event. We will be hearing from Becca Powell, Director of Advocacy and Outreach at Unchained At Last, an organization whose mission is dedication to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and systems change.
