Discuss & Social 🍷 Race and dating: preference, prejudice or politics?
Discuss & Social 🍷 Race and dating: preference, prejudice or politics?
**UPDATE: Our main discussion starts a bit later tonight - ca 8pm - - if you're new to our discussions, please aim to arrive after 8pm !!!** Many say that dating your own race, ethnicity, culture, etc is a natural preference - but then why did many countries have to try hard to *stop* mixing between groups? From racial purity laws in the US and Nazi Germany, to Saudi Arabia's ban on marrying foreigners, apartheid in South Africa, segregation and eugenics, and bans on marrying someone from a different religion. While mixing across races was common since ancient empires and trade routes, race (or other demographic categories) is now a common "filter" criteria in dating apps and popular advice. Is this really just a matter of personal taste, or could there be an element of prejudice and politics? We'll discuss: 1\. Is preference really natural? 2\. Could modern dating ideas on race/ethnicity/culture/etc carry political goals\, e\.g\. racial purity\, cultural conformism\, etc? 3\. How to tell whether it's preference\, prejudice or politics\, in our daily lives? *Join us for a relaxed group conversation where we explore the real life, the grey areas, and how our different cultures and backgrounds shape our views about key topics.* *Expect real talk, no judgment, and a chance to learn how others see it.* **\*Come for the discussion, stay for the friendships. Our weekly discussion series brings together thoughtful people for honest conversations on relationships, life, and society - with warm social vibes before and after.\*** **WHAT TO EXPECT:** * Good vibes only: we chat big topics in a chill, respectful way. No arguing - just open-minded exchange. * We warm up with casual socializing (come solo or with friends!) * The topic starts around 7:45/8pm, wraps around 9:30. * 🍕 There's pizza, drinks, milkshakes and snacks available at the bar (incl plant-based options) * And most people stay until late for drinks and mingling! **DISCUSSION FORMAT:** **\- Our group conversations are open and flexible\! There is a very soft guided flow to ensure we focus on the key questions\, and to ensure that everyone gets a balanced opportunity to speak\.** \- We rotate groups intentionally during the discussion so everyone gets to meet a wider mix of people and perspectives\. \- After the structured part\, you’re free to mix and mingle with anyone\. **Here's a typical discussion structure, but we may adjust this depending on the turnout:** \- Introductions and initial thoughts *(\~5 mins).* \- Group breakouts per question *(\~20 mins x 3).* \- Final round of opinions *(\~10 mins)*. \- Mix and mingle\, make new friends\, get drinks etc *(\~until late)* **Rules & etiquette:** 1\. Debate the topic\, not the participants \- no personal attacks please\. 2\. No phones\, no interrupting\, no bystanding\. 3\. Always follow the moderator/host instructions and guidelines\. **WHAT IS WORLD CITIZENS?** We're one of London's longest-running and largest communities. Since 2012 we run socials, cultural activities and stimulating discussions to foster meaningful exchange and learning among London's global professionals. They are inspired by MUN (Model United Nations) and salon discussions and offer a more relaxed and social evening version. **LOCATION DETAILS** What: Discussion session followed by social/networking When: Tuesday, 8pm until late. Where: Curzon Aldgate (bar area), 2 Canter Way, E1 8PS Closest stations: Aldgate East, Aldgate, Tower Hill/Gateway Cost: Pay for your own meals or drinks Hosts: We have a rotating team and the actual host of each event varies. Our regular members can also help you out with basic matters. *NOTE: like most guests, our volunteer hosts join after work and may arrive after the start time. If you are punctual or earlier than our hosts, we highly appreciate this! Please feel free to start socializing already and/or get something to eat or drink - that’s the point of our events anyway! Our regular members can also help you out with any basic matters.* **\*Our other weekly events\*** \- Friday evening socials every week \- Saturday afternoon cafe in Chelsea \- Canary Wharf socials every other Wednesday \- Outdoor fun \(hiking\, kayaking\, etc\) every weekend \- Dining\, cultural and travel activities on\-demand **JOIN OUR TEAM!** We're all volunteers, so if you enjoy organizing activities or events in your spare time, while meeting great people every week, send a message to our team account "TP"! **DISCLAIMER** We are a 100% volunteer-run team. Though we have high standards in planning, this is a private informal activity so we cannot be liable for any damage or inconvenience. To maintain a safe atmosphere and good energy, we invite, curate, vet and decline guests at our own discretion, prioritizing good connections and vibe-checks. Apr 11 Just Play Mahjong Club(Chinese, American &Japanese Riichi Styles)
Apr 11 Just Play Mahjong Club(Chinese, American &Japanese Riichi Styles)
### 📅 EVENT DETAILS 📍 **Where:** Aldgate Tower (just outside Aldgate East Station, Exit 1) 🙋 **Who:** Players who already know how to play with scores (not suitable for beginners) ☕ **Included:** Instructor help, free tea, coffee, and unbeatable vibes ## 🀄 WANT TO PLAY MAHJONG REGULARLY? Mahjong is still a niche board game in London — and since it needs **4 players**, it can be hard to organise regular games with just your own friends or family. In many parts of Asia, **Mahjong parlours** bring people together to play. While we’re **not** running a commercial Mahjong club, we *are* here to build a **community**. Many of our players started as complete beginners in our workshops — and now they’re **hooked**! That’s why we created our **🎟️ Just Play tickets**. ### 🌏 DIFFERENT MAHJONG STYLES WELCOME ### 🇭🇰 Hong Kong Style (Main Style) Our main style is **Hong Kong Mahjong**, with a **3 fan minimum to win**.If you know how to play other Chinese styles like **Taiwanese**, **Sichuan**, or **British Mahjong**, you’re still welcome! We’ll provide **scoring cards** to help you adapt. ⚠️ However, these tables are **not suitable for beginners**. If you haven’t yet graduated from Level 1 or Level 2 of our workshops, or if you don’t know how to score, please join our learner workshops first to build confidence. ### 🇯🇵 Japanese Riichi (Growing Community) Riichi Mahjong is **new to our community**, but we love its fast pace and strategic complexity! If you already know how to play Riichi — \*\*amazing! Please join us.\*\*If you play Chinese Mahjong and want to try Riichi, one of our instructors or friendly regulars might help, but we **can’t guarantee full teaching support yet**. You're welcome to learn by playing alongside others. ### 🇺🇸 American Mahjong (New Community in 2026) We’re excited to add **American Mahjong** to our offerings. It’s quite different from Chinese Mahjong, so we’ll run newbie workshops and regular Just Play sessions from 2026. **Note**: Just Play bookings require solid prior knowledge of American rules. However, we encourage cross‑style learning, so if you already know one style of Mahjong, learn another with us, so you can play at any table. ## 💷 OUR BEST PRICE PROMISE We’re doing our best to keep **Just Play tickets affordable** for a 2-hour session — that’s our **best price promise**. 🙌 Unlike clubs that charge entry or venues that require a minimum spend, our ticket price covers only what’s needed: venue, staff, admin cost. And yes — with a booked ticket, **YOU ARE GUARNATEED A SEAT AT THE TABLE**, and we also provide **free tea, coffee**, and the occasional **festive treat**. ☕🍪 We're not a charity, but we are **deeply committed** to creating a welcoming Mahjong community. 💛 Your support helps us keep the tiles clicking, and we love seeing familiar faces return week after week! ## 📱 JOIN OUR MAHJONG WHATSAPP COMMUNITY Stay connected with fellow players in our friendly WhatsApp group — a space to ask questions, get updates on upcoming events, and even arrange private games outside of our Saturday sessions. It's the easiest way to stay in the loop and grow your Mahjong circle! [LINK HERE](https://chat.whatsapp.com/IQXv3nGfbeMCfvI6HsGjfZ "https://chat.whatsapp.com/IQXv3nGfbeMCfvI6HsGjfZ") **Important Notes** 1. Each attendee must be registered to our building in addition to the meetup ticketing. If you book two tickets, we will need both individuals’ full names and email addresses for registration. 2. On **the same week**, you will receive an email from "Aldgate Tower" with your **building entry invitation**. This email includes a **unique visitor QR code**, which you’ll need to scan at the ground floor speed gates. Then, head straight up to the **6th floor**, where we’ll be ready to welcome you. 3. Please check your **spam or junk folder** if you don’t see the email. Still nothing? Send us a message / whatsapp us on +44 7423 755734 , and we’ll assist you promptly.
Krishnamurti Inspired Sunday Dialogue
Krishnamurti Inspired Sunday Dialogue
**Here we meet up outside of the restaurant setting, in a beautiful room at the Tibetan Buddhist Centre in London. The quiet venue is helpful for perhaps a greater deep dive and attention to our topic.** Together we shall be exploring some of the themes that Krishnamurti is proposing but, more importantly, that we ourselves are facing in our everyday life. Krishnamurti is showing us what he sees about human conditioning and the lack or freedom and love that dominates existence. Our inquiry is to see this conditioning for ourselves and to bring about fundamental change. ### **Dialogue Dates For 2026** * Sunday 11th January * Sunday 8th February * Sunday 8th March * Sunday 12th April * Sunday 10th May * Sunday date in June awaiting confirmation * SORRY THE CENTRE IS CLOSED DURING JULY & AUGUST * Sunday 13th September * Sunday 11th October * Sunday 8th November * Sunday 13th December **The Dialogue** As we sit together and exchange on these unresolved topics of life, we will be confronted with the living limitations of our relationships in the group. What is real listening to each other or is my listening and attention already conditioned? What is real inquiry and can we think together during our dialogue? ### **Refreshments** Do come early and have a cup of tea with friends here at the Tibetan Buddhist Cafe on the premises. You can also go and sit in the little garden outside or relax in the lovely library for more private informal dialogues between participants. I will be present at the premises cafe for pre dialogue get togethers: (please contact me if you want me to be there at a specific time...) ### **Contribution Price for the Dialogue** There will be a cost of £10 per dialogue per person to cover the hiring of the room, thank you **[FOR FURTHER INFO ON THIS EVENTS & OTHERS VISIT HERE](https://open-door-worldwide.com/event/krishnamurti-inspired-group-dialogue-buddhist-temple-london/)**

Spiritual Intuition Class
Spiritual Intuition Class
### **Train Your Natural Intuitive Abilities** You're already intuitive. The question is whether you know how your intuition operates, and how to use it to guide you in your daily life. Spiritual Intuition is a practical, grounded class designed to help you understand and strengthen your intuitive senses in a clear, usable way. Rather than guessing, overthinking, or relying on external tools, you’ll learn clear techniques to develop and trust your intuitive guidance. This is intuition as a skill, not a personality trait, and certainly not one reserved for “the gifted few”. ### **If any of these sound familiar, you're in the right place.** * You second guess your inner voice, and find yourself * You’re drawn to spirituality, tarot, or intuitive work, but your insights feel inconsistent * You sometimes doubt whether what you’re sensing is intuition or imagination * You feel intuitive at times, blocked at others * You want clarity, not guesswork * You’re curious about intuition, but want it explained and trained in a grounded way This workshop meets you exactly where you are, whether you’re just starting to connect to your intuition or have years of experience. ### **You'll walk away with:** By the end of this 2-hour workshop, you’ll be able to say: * “I understand what my intuition actually feels like and how it communicates with me” * “I know which of the intuitive senses are strongest for me” (between clairvoyance, clairsentience and clairaudience) * “I have three clear techniques to strengthen my intuition” * “I can develop my intuition practically and apply it in daily life” * “I can train myself to trust my inner guidance more, without forcing or overthinking” This is not about becoming “psychic.” It’s about learning how to listen to information you already receive to make better decisions in your everyday life. ### **What makes Spiritual Intuition different from other courses?** Most intuition courses fall short because they either: * Disempower students by positioning intuition as something “special” or rare * Rely heavily on external tools to access inner knowing Spiritual Intuition is different. These techniques have been used and refined for thousands of years and require nothing outside of yourself. No cards. No pendulums. Just you. You’ll learn how to train your intuitive senses directly, so that intuition becomes something you practice, not something you hope shows up when you need it. ### **Is this class for me?** Spiritual Intuition is great if you identify with any of the following: * Beginners curious about intuition but unsure where to start * People interested in spirituality or tarot who want more consistency and trust * Those who feel intuitive but lack clarity or confidence * Coaches or healers who want to deepen their intuitive abilities ### **About Your Teacher** This workshop is taught by Dr. Jacqueline Nonweiler, a psychologist and spiritual mentor who bridges psychological insight with lineage-based spiritual training. Her approach emphasizes clarity, self-trust, and grounded integration, to help you access your intuition in a way that is calm, practical and empowering. ### **Contact Dr. Jackie** Jackie@sanctuaryhealingcentre.com for any questions & enquiries. Follow me on Instagram: [@jacquelinenonweiler](https://www.instagram.com/jacquelinenonweiler/) ### **Ready to Train Your Intuition?** * **Duration**: 2 hours, 7-9pm * **Location**: In-person at the Modern Mystery School UK EU Headquarters, 4 Celbridge Mews, London, W2 6EU * **Group size**: Intentionally capped at 10 participants * **Investment**: £45 * This workshop stands alone, though for some, it opens up doors of curiosity into deeper study in the Modern Mystery School. Speak Easy (Storytelling)
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for April is "Water" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!

Columbus Comedy Improv Meetup at Gresso's!
Columbus Comedy Improv Meetup at Gresso's!
Whether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you knew Del Close on a personal level, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup** for some fun and games! The idea behind improv is to create entire scenes from scratch based on a suggestion from the audience. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway*, *ComedySportz*, or *Wild 'n Out*; it could also be done to tell stories, like *Middleditch and Schwartz*. Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and free!) weekly comedy event, brings the games (and occasionally different forms) for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. Not only is it a lot of fun, but you get to work on thinking faster on your feet, plus it's an excellent way to meet new people and make friendships that'll last a lifetime! Ask yourself if you want to join the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**, and say "Yes, And" that you'll have fun!
