But without the compile-time safety net of the borrow checker, extra care is needed to get the code right. This talk shares some useful testing tools and techniques to help evaluate the correctness of unsafe Rust. **TALK 2. Mechanical Sympathy in Rust Performance Optimization** Modern computers are fast, but nuances of their design and implementation can have profound impacts on program speed. This talk, based on the author's work contributing performance improvements to the Rust compression library zlib-rs, describes how a closer look at the hardware’s strengths and weaknesses can help make fast software even faster. **ABOUT BRIAN** Brian Pane spent his career leading the development of networking and infrastructure software at companies including Roblox, Pinterest, Dropbox, and Facebook.
