Vegetarian trek for omnivores: Liberty Village to Kensington Market (9 km)
Vegetarian trek for omnivores: Liberty Village to Kensington Market (9 km)
**Attendance policy is enforced for this hike** because it's a popular one. See below for details. This one is for the vegetarians and vegans who have been missing out on past hikes. And meat-eaters who turn their nose at the mention of vegetables. This hike will highlight restaurants that showcase vegetables in their natural glory. No vegetarian burgers or vegan cheese. After all, why eat poor imitations of meat when you can eat the real thing? Great vegetarian dishes should stand on their own. The best variety, quality, and density of vegetarian food is at downtown. Starting from hipster Liberty Village, we'll make our way to hippie Kensington Market. We'll pass by a veritable mix of Chinese, Indian, Italian, Jamaican, Lebanese, Vietnamese (and more) restaurants, each with their own take on veg food. This hike ends at an Indian-inspired vegan restaurant in Toronto. Guarantee your spot at our [companion event](https://www.meetup.com/hike-to-eat/events/313789223/). **Highlights** 1. Southwest corner of King and Atlantic (depart 10:45am) 2. Thindi Cafe 3. Garrison Common 4. Simit and Chai 5. The Roasted Nut 6. Roti Mahal 7. Waterworks Food Hall (depart 12pm, centre south exit) 8. Victoria Memorial Square 9. Annalakshmi 10. Bestco Fresh Foods 11. Georgian House 12. Aux Merveilleux de Fred 13. Toronto City Hall (depart 1pm) 14. VegeDelight 15. Aaha Truly South 16. FIKA Cafe 17. Mochi Mochi Cafe 18. The Cottage Cheese / Hawker 19. Robert Street Cookies / Fresca (arrive 1:50pm) **Neighbourhoods** Liberty Village > West Queen West > Fashion District > Entertainment DIstrict > Chinatown > Kensington Market **Map** [https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1SioIGK9x_ux8mSzUJ6jaHoCwJV6CPEg&usp=sharing](https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1SioIGK9x_ux8mSzUJ6jaHoCwJV6CPEg&usp=sharing) **How it works** Hike starts punctually. Late or can't do the whole route? Meet us at scheduled checkpoints. We'll browse many food places but won't linger long. See the route in advance, organize takeout, then pickup along the way. Not sure what to try? Join our vegetarian omakase for $5, which gives a tiny sample from different restaurants. Vegan option subject to demand. Payment on the day of event by cash or e-transfer to globaltorontoeats@gmail.com. No refunds after orders are placed. Details of sampled food will be uploaded after the hike. Limited cutlery provided. Highly recommended to bring cutlery and containers for omakase and bringing back leftovers. See our [About section](https://www.meetup.com/hike-to-eat/) for more info. **Attendance policy** Please check in with an organizer when you arrive. 24 hours before the hike, we'll note down who is on the confirmed list. Those that don't show up will be marked as no-show. Repeat offenders will be banned. Please change your RSVP if you can no longer attend. If you got off the waitlist less than 24 hours before the event, you won't be considered a no-show.

Lunch at Hawker (after Vegetarian trek for omnivores)
Lunch at Hawker (after Vegetarian trek for omnivores)
This is a companion event for [Vegetarian trek for omnivores](https://www.meetup.com/hike-to-eat/events/313774090). You don't have to do the hike to join this, but it's more rewarding if you do. [Hawker](https://www.hawker.to/) is perhaps the most innovative vegan restaurant in Toronto. Drawing inspiration from one of the oldest vegetarian traditions, several of their dishes fuse Indian influences with modern sensibilities. Take their biryani, for example, spiked with smoked poblano and lavender. Other dishes reflect the global experiences of the chefs. It's fine dining standards with casual prices. If there are many people on the waitlist and it's at least 5 days before the event, we may arrange another table. **Payment** * The $5 event fee is a deposit. It will be refunded when you show up. * After signing up for the event, you have 24 hours to e-transfer the fee to globaltorontoeats@gmail.com * If you're on the waitlist, you don't have to pay the deposit until a space opens up. You have 24 hours to pay the deposit after you've made it off the waitlist. * When sending the e-transfer, please add a note that mentions your meetup.com name. * If you don't pay in time, you will be removed from the attendee list. The spot will be given to the next person on the waitlist. **Cancellation and refund policy** * You can cancel and get a full refund 5 calendar days before the event. For example, if the event is on Friday 7pm, you can cancel without penalty anytime before the preceding Sunday 11:59pm. * No refunds within 5 calendar days of the event, unless someone can be found to take your place. * Full refund if the event is cancelled or rescheduled.

Humanist Program
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event. We will be hearing from Becca Powell, Director of Advocacy and Outreach at Unchained At Last, an organization whose mission is dedication to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and systems change. Unchained At Last's mission clearly meshes and addresses several of our Humanist Ten Commitments. Becca will educate us about an issue many of us may not be familiar with--but should be. Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk. Going forward our meetings will be hybrid.
