Nonfiction Bookclub: The Cheese and the Worms by Carlo Ginzburg
**New members of all ages always welcome!**
The Cheese and the Worms is an incisive study of popular culture in the sixteenth century as seen through the eyes of one man, the miller known as Menocchio, who was accused of heresy during the Inquisition and sentenced to death. Carlo Ginzburg uses the trial records to illustrate the religious and social conflicts of the society Menocchio lived in. For a common miller, Menocchio was surprisingly literate. In his trial testimony he made references to more than a dozen books, including the Bible, Boccaccio's Decameron, Mandeville's Travels, and a "mysterious" book that may have been the Koran. And what he read he recast in terms familiar to him, as in his own version of the creation: "All was chaos, that is earth, air, water, and fire were mixed together; and of that bulk a mass formed-just as cheese is made out of milk-and worms appeared in it, and these were the angels." Ginzburg's influential book has been widely regarded as an early example of the analytic, case-oriented approach known as microhistory. In a thoughtful new preface, Ginzburg offers his own corollary to Menocchio's story as he considers the discrepancy between the intentions of the writer and what gets written. The Italian miller's story and Ginzburg's work continue to resonate with modern readers because they focus on how oral and written culture are inextricably linked. Menocchio's 500-year-old challenge to authority remains evocative and vital today.

Christian Speed Dating (Age Range: 28-42) *Meet Up to 15 Dates*
**\*\*THIS IS NOT A FREE EVENT & RSVP ON MEET UP DOES NOT GUARANTEE ENTRY\*\***
**TO ATTEND THIS EVENT A TICKET MUST BE PURCHSED FROM OUR WEBSITE. PLEASE CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE A TICKET:** [Speed Dating at The Anthologist, Bank (Ages 28-42) – Tuesday, 21st Apr 2026 | True Dating](https://truedating.co.uk/events/christian-speed-dating-21-apr-2026)
Reaching a point in life where you’re ready to settle down and build something meaningful can sometimes feel isolating, especially when you’re hoping to meet someone who shares your Christian faith and values.
**That’s where Christian speed dating comes in.**
At our events, you’ll have the opportunity to meet up to 15 like-minded singles in one evening. Each date lasts around five minutes, enough time to have a genuine conversation and see whether there’s a connection. Ladies remain seated while gentlemen rotate.
Our guests are typically working, successful Christian professionals who are tired of endless swiping and are genuinely looking for something long-term. Everyone attending has signed up in advance, is single, and is there for the same reason as you.
The atmosphere is friendly, relaxed, and welcoming, with experienced hosts on hand to guide the evening and help put everyone at ease.
After the event, you’ll submit your matches online. If there’s a mutual connection, you’ll be able to message securely the following day and hopefully arrange date number two.
### Why Speed Dating?
Speed dating events are more popular than ever in London as people move away from dating apps and back towards real-life connections.
If you’re wondering whether events like this are awkward or not “your kind of crowd,” you’re not alone — but that perception has changed completely.
### What to Expect on the Night
* A well-organised, hosted event
* A room full of single Christian professionals
* A safe, structured environment
* The chance to meet multiple potential matches in one evening
### Event Details
* **Start time:** 7:30pm
* **Location:** Exclusive area reserved — please ask venue staff for **True Dating** if needed
Places are limited and our events often sell out, so we recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.
**Stop swiping. Start dating.**

Discuss & Social 🍷 Is style/fashion superficial or a fabric of our identity?
We often hear that people's style/fashion choices can be superficial and consumerist. We also rightly hear criticism against the big industry players' practices. But does this make style and fashion inherently a dilemma of "vanity vs function"? Whether we wear casual hoodies like in a tech startup, or designer pieces from the catwalk, don't we all signal something about who we are and where we belong?
We'll discuss..
1- Why do we appreciate other forms of creativity (painting, design, entrepreneurship, etc) but are more critical of people's clothing choices?
2- Can our style choices carry a deeper effect than just the external looks?
3- How many of our close friends wear completely different styles from us? Why / why not?
*Join us for a relaxed group conversation where we explore the real life, the grey areas, and how our different cultures and backgrounds shape our views about key topics.* *Expect real talk, no judgment, and a chance to learn how others see it.*
**\*Come for the discussion, stay for the friendships. Our weekly discussion series brings together thoughtful people for honest conversations on relationships, life, and society - with warm social vibes before and after.\***
**WHAT TO EXPECT:**
* Good vibes only: we chat big topics in a chill, respectful way. No arguing - just open-minded exchange.
* We warm up with casual socializing (come solo or with friends!)
* The topic starts around 7:45/8pm, wraps around 9:30.
* 🍕 There's pizza, drinks, milkshakes and snacks available at the bar (incl plant-based options)
* And most people stay until late for drinks and mingling!
**DISCUSSION FORMAT:**
**\- Our group conversations are open and flexible\! There is a very soft guided flow to ensure we focus on the key questions\, and to ensure that everyone gets a balanced opportunity to speak\.**
\- We rotate groups intentionally during the discussion so everyone gets to meet a wider mix of people and perspectives\.
\- After the structured part\, you’re free to mix and mingle with anyone\.
**Here's a typical discussion structure, but we may adjust this depending on the turnout:**
\- Introductions and initial thoughts *(\~5 mins).*
\- Group breakouts per question *(\~20 mins x 3).*
\- Final round of opinions *(\~10 mins)*.
\- Mix and mingle\, make new friends\, get drinks etc *(\~until late)*
**Rules & etiquette:**
1\. Debate the topic\, not the participants \- no personal attacks please\.
2\. No phones\, no interrupting\, no bystanding\.
3\. Always follow the moderator/host instructions and guidelines\.

Tall Persons Meet up in a pub to talk, drink, eat and make new friends
Hello fellow tallies, **and by tallies we mean women over 5\`9 and men over 6\`2**. This is the one chance a month for us to meet up in person literally face to face in London.
We are moving back to our old central London meeting place at **The Marlborough Arms** for a few months.
**The Marlborough Arms is at 36 Torrington Pl, London WC1E 7LY**. It is
Just a few minutes from Goodge Street tube station and a 10 minute walk from Tottenham Court Road, Russell Square and Euston Square tube stations.
**The Tall Persons Club have been meeting in London on the last Friday of every month for over 30 years** so there tends to be more people there than just who is on this Meetup group.
Come and experience the back straightening joy of standing alongside people who are taller than you and learn a whole new body posture, that accompanies that - cheaper than a Chiropractor!
You are welcome to bring a non tall partner or friend, but one of you MUST be tall! **PLEASE NOTE:** this is a tall persons meet up where we tallies get a chance to talk to other tallies so there is a **minimum height requirement of 6\`2 for men and 5\`9 for women**.
The venue is a Greene King managed pub with their own range of beers, gins (!) and spirits. Classic pub grub is available. We're happy to report that the staff there are friendly and looking forward to being looked down on - in the physical sense, not the attitudinal one.
When you get to the pub, we have an area reserved right at the back of the back of the pub on the left hand side, When you get to the back room room you should see us there easily enough but if not just come in to the room where you should find either Mike, Simon, Neal, Sharran, Rory (we will have name stickers on) and we will introduce you around. If all else fails look for a 3ft wooden Giraffe called Jerry who will be sitting on on of our tables.
Everyone is nervous the first time but we are a really friendly eclectic bunch, and we really look forward to meeting you! If in doubt to where we are then just please just ask the bar staff and they will point you in the right direction.
If you have any questions, please email us at

Men's Group meetup
**The idea for this group is to build a community where men can gather together and build connections & learn and grow from each other.**
How we start each meeting is by each of us checking in with our "roses and thorns" aka what are the good things and the bad things going on in your life recently?
Then we will go into a topic discussion.

**COMMUNITY AGREEMENTS**

1. Confidentiality - EVERYTHING that is shared NEVER leaves this space so that this space remains safe and sacred. There is a zero tolerance policy for this. If a man is in violation of this, they will be permanently removed from the group.
2. Non-Judgement - we respect and honor every man’s truth so that we may receive the same from others. While we may not agree on everything, we commit to respecting every man’s perspectives and engaging in honorable discussion with one another.
3. Be committed - honor your commitment to this group and to yourself. If you attend a meeting, please commit yourself fully to the meeting. Also be committed to your own journey. When we fail, we own it & clean it up.
4. Speak from the heart - this is NOT a space to “look good”, have the “right” answers, and have it all together. Relax and know you are not alone. Be exactly who you are within the safety of this space.
5. Be supportive - This means always willing to provide encouragement to your fellow men, encourage action and momentum in each other’s lives.. Be willing to challenge each other. Be willing to hold each other accountable.
6. Participation - what you receive from this community will be a reflection of what you put into it. Period. We ask that you share your perspectives, reflect on others, and give/receive support when and where it’s needed.

• Show up and try it out.
• Complete application, etc. later.
Normal process
• Complete an online application (http://rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer/).
• Attend orientation in advance.
• At orientation you will complete forms agreeing to keep family/patient info private and allowing a background check and tour the facility.

The Ronald McDonald House (RMH) provides housing and meals for families with sick children. The Columbus RMH is the largest in the world with 137 rooms. COUNT has been volunteering there since May 2014.
Housewarmers work with RMH guests to provide a home-like environment - greet, assist with family needs, answer phones, give tours, assist with checkin/checkout, prepare guest rooms after checkout, clean facility, laundry, restock supplies and staff the front desk. RMH Housewarmers volunteer at least one four-hour shift a month. All Housewarmers must complete an application and agree to a background check before they can be full fledged volunteers.
The Story So Far: A WiA Reflection Circle
A WiA Collective Wisdom Exchange
At the start of this year, we gathered to look back, set intentions, and imagine the next chapter.
This is the follow-up.
Not a check-in. Not a progress report. A small, facilitated circle to reconnect with what you said mattered — and honestly explore what’s actually happening now.
Together, we’ll explore:
• What you intended at the start of this year - and what that looks like three months in
• What’s surprised you, supported you, or shifted
• What the next chapter needs now that you know what you know
If you were at our January gathering, bring whatever you made or wrote — your word, your artifact, your intention. We’ll look at it with fresh eyes. If this is your first time, you belong here too. You’ll start where we all started: with what’s true right now.
Optional art materials will be available for anyone who wants to reflect creatively alongside conversation. If you brought something home from January, you’re warmly invited to bring it back.
The intention is the same as always: everyone leaves feeling more clear, more connected, and a little lighter.
Space is intentionally limited to keep the experience intimate.
What to Expect
• A small, welcoming circle (not a large meetup)
• Structured conversation so everyone has space to speak
• Reflection, listening, and lived experience — not advice-giving
• Optional creative reflection alongside conversation
• A calm, supportive environment
Who This Is For
Women and underrepresented folks working in or around agile, product, technology, leadership, or organizational change — especially those looking for honest conversation and community beyond frameworks and buzzwords.
Good to Know
• No preparation required
• If you attended in January, we invite you to bring anything you created or wrote (or something that represents your intention at the start of the year) - it’s optional but invited
• Participation is invitational; listening is always welcome
• Creative activities are optional
