Atomic English - daily English sessions online
Hello, I'm Alex, an English teacher from London.
Atomic English is based on the idea that doing something tiny for your English every single weekday is the fastest way to get brilliant, fluent English.
- live sessions 10am - every weekday
- daily vocabulary quiz
- daily feedback and corrections on your speaking
- £50 month pass
https://www.englishwithalex.online/atomic-english
Learn new phrases, get corrections, build your confidence using tricky structures…every day.
The idea came from my own frustrations of learning languages (I study Italian and Portuguese).
"I’ll study for 2 hours tomorrow", I say to myself. When tomorrow comes I do nothing. I think it’s because I build up huge expectations in my mind and then feel overwhelmed by the thought of a 2 hour study session. If only I had lowered my expectations and committed to 30 minutes a day, I’d be fluent by now!
I see similar patterns with my students so that’s why I started Atomic English.
- you’ll build your vocabulary
- eliminate your mistakes
- get confidence
... every day (or at least as often as you can make it). These tiny, Atomic English will transform your English.
It’s £50 for a month pass there are sessions everday
https://www.englishwithalex.online/atomic-english
See you there!
Bel-air Toastmaster Club Meeting
Hello Everyone, Welcome to Bel-Air Toastmasters.
Meetings are normally held every First and Third Friday of every month from 7:30pm to 9:00pm.
We're now using Zoom online meetings until the restrictions are lifted and we can go back to in person meetings.
Email us belairtoastmasters@gmail.com for the zoom details and agenda.
Public speaking terrifies many people, even if those people speak in front of our own peers. Like most things in life, public speaking is a marathon, and not a sprint. We make small little gains, we get a little more confident, and one success builds upon the next. In years, you will find yourself become a great public speaker once you stick to it.
Please bring a friend. We love having new people.

Live-Reading Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics – North American Style
Let's try something new. For the next dozen weeks or so, starting 4/17/2022, we are going to live-read and discuss Aristotle's \~*Nicomachean Ethics*\~. What is new and different about this project is that the translation, by Adam Beresford (2020), happens to be rendered in standard 'Murican English.
.
From the translator's "Note" on the text:
.
"This translation is conservative in interpretation and traditional in aim. It aims to translate the text as accurately as possible.
.
"I translated every page from scratch, from a clean Greek text, rather than revising an existing translation. ... I wanted to avoid the scholars’ dialect that is traditionally used for translating Aristotle.
...
"I reject the approach of Arthur Adkins, Elizabeth Anscombe, and others who followed Nietzsche in supposing that the main elements of modern thinking about right and wrong were unknown to the Greeks, or known to them only in some radically different form. My view of humanity and of our shared moral instincts is shaped by a newer paradigm. This is a post-Darwinian translation. (It is also more in line with the older, both Aristotelian and Christian view of human character.)
.
"Having said that, I have no interest at all in modernizing Aristotle’s ideas. All the attitudes of this treatise remain fully Greek, very patriarchal, somewhat aristocratic, and firmly embedded in the fourth century BC. My choice of dialect (standard English) has no bearing on that whatsoever. (It is perfectly possible to express distinctively Greek and ancient attitudes in standard English.) ... I have also not simplified the text in any way. I have translated every iota, particle, preposition, noun, verb, adjective, phrase, clause, and sentence of the original. Every premise and every argument therefore remains – unfortunately – exactly as complex and annoyingly difficult as in any other version in whatever dialect.
...
"Some scholars and students unwarily assume that the traditional dialect has a special connection with Greek and that using it brings readers closer to the original text; and that it makes the translation more accurate. In reality, it has no special tie to the Greek language, either in its main philosophical glossary or in its dozens of minor (and pointless) deviations from normal English. And in my view it certainly makes any translation much less accurate.
.
"I will occasionally refer to the scholars’ dialect (‘Gringlish’) and its traditional glossary in the Notes."
.
.
Here is our plan:
1\. Read Intro excerpts or a summary to gain the big picture\.
2\. Read a segment of the translated text\.
3\. Discuss it analytically and interpretively\.
4\. Repeat again at \#2 for several more times\.
5\. Discuss the segments evaluatively\.
.
.
Zoom is the project's current meeting platform, but that can change. The project's cloud drive is [here](https://mega.nz/folder/vqJCXIQJ#muxiUXMHhfljvxKnWaOxZA), at which you'll find the reading texts, notes, and slideshows.

Connect to Zoom meetup by clicking on the link.
Participants are welcome to join the Main Room starting at 16:00 EST/ 21:00 GMT.
We encourage all participants to sign in promptly by 16:00 EST/21:00 GMT. This allows for sufficient time to generate the full attendee list and assign roles based on your language skill level.
Please right-click on your image in the screen and select "Rename".
Add your French Language Skill Level, ranging from
F1 = Beginner to F5 = Advanced & F6= Exceptional, in front of your name.
For example, "F5 - Jean" or "F3 - John".
This is essential for helping organizers mix and match different skill levels and form pairs for one-on-one conversation sessions.
The organizer will manage each pair using breakout rooms and will rotate partners every 15 minutes. In each session, half the time in French and half the time in English.
Breakout rooms will be opened for conversation sessions at 16:15 EST /21:15 GMT. All individual sessions will conclude at 18:00 EST/23:00 GMT.
Following which we will return to the Main Room to thank you for your participation and get your feedback for future improvements.
Please be advised that this event is first-come-first-served. We look forward to seeing you. Thank you.

Par exemple, "F5 - Jean" or "F3 - John".

What If Your AI Could Be a Team? - Chad Green
**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you.
The building address is 4450 Bridge Park
The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400

**Abstract**
GitHub Copilot is powerful, but what if you could scale from a solo AI assistant to an entire team of specialized agents working in parallel? This session introduces Squad: an open-source framework for multi-agent orchestration that lets you define teams of AI agents with specific roles, responsibilities, and expertise.
We'll progress from Copilot basics to the Copilot CLI, explore how Agents add autonomy, and see how Instructions and Skills let you customize agent behavior. Then, the climax: a live demo where a Squad team of 3 agents (Lead, Developer, Tester) stands up and builds a working application in real-time, showcasing true multi-agent collaboration.
Whether you're new to AI or exploring how to scale your use of Copilot, this session will show you what's possible when agents work as a team.

Contra dance with Big Scioty May 2 - Clinton Heights Lutheran church
**Caller: Richard Ades**
**Band: The McKenzies**
**Clinton Heights Lutheran Church**
**15 Clinton Heights Ave, Columbus, OH 43202**
WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing!
Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner.
Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot.
For more information contact me or check out our website: [www.bigscioty.com](http://www.bigscioty.com/)
Please bring your own refillable water bottle.
