Met deze vraag als uitgangspunt organiseert Meet je stad Utrecht op maandag 15 juni een kennisavond in bibliotheek Neude over de rol van bomen bij het beperken van stedelijke hittestress.** ### De rol van bomen in de klimaatbestendige stad Onderzoeker dr. Daniela Maiullari van de TU Delft vertelt maandagavond 15 juni over de groeiende uitdaging van hittestress en legt uit hoe bomen in steden echt een verschil kunnen maken. Aan de hand van voorbeelden uit onderzoeksprojecten van de TU Delft behandelt ze monitoringtechnieken om stedelijke hitte te beoordelen en bespreekt ze de verkoelende werking van bomen. Ook presenteert dr. Maiullari de nieuwste inzichten over hoe bomen functioneren in stedelijke omgevingen en hoe groene planningsstrategieën – zoals de 3-30-300-regel – kunnen helpen bij het verminderen van stedelijke hitte. De 3-30-300-regel gaat ervan uit dat elke bewoner vanuit zijn woning minstens drie volgroeide bomen kan zien, in een buurt woont met 30 procent boomkroonbedekking en binnen 300 meter toegang heeft tot een groene buitenruimte van een halve tot een hele hectare. *Dr. Daniela Maiullari is universitair docent aan de TU Delft. Politically-minded Beatrice, daughter of a famous suffragette, sees Oxford as a chance to make her own way - and some friends her own age. Otto was a nurse during the war but is excited to return to her socialite lifestyle in Oxford where she hopes to find distraction from the memories that haunt her. And finally Marianne, the quiet, clever daughter of a village pastor, who has a shocking secret she must hide from everyone, even her new friends, if she is to succeed. Among the historic spires, and in the long shadow of the Great War, the four women must navigate and support one another in a turbulent world in which misogyny is rife, influenza is still a threat, and the ghosts of the Great War don’t always remain dead.

Register for a hands-on art making workshop at the Octagon Earthworks, led by Newark Earthworks Center experts Marti Chaatsmith and Megan Cromwell, along with Ohio State’s 2025–26 Artist Laureate, Kate Shannon. The workshop will take place on June 22, 2026, 10 am - 2 pm (rain date: June 29th, 10 am - 2 pm) at 125 N. 33rd St. Newark, OH 43055. Ages 14 and up are invited to participate The cyanotype is a simple photographic process that uses sunlight and water to produce vivid blue images. During the workshop, participants will learn about the Octagon Earthworks before exploring the grounds to create place-based prints inspired by Hopewell culture Select prints created during the workshop will be featured in a subsequent exhibition at the Newark Earthworks Storyteller Gallery, on view from July 13 to August 28, 2026.
