Les fabriques de meubles dues à un savoir-faire réputé, avaient envahi tout le faubourg Saint-Antoine. Au moment de la construction de l'opéra Bastille, le sud du 11e, au prix d'une transformation radicale, devint le quartier à la mode, les artisans cédant peu a peu la place aux cafés et boutiques branchés. Dans tout l'arrondissement, des passages dévoilent un Paris secret et encore protégé. Au milieu d'une suite de cours discrètes, une rencontre est prévue avec un des derniers ébénistes du quartier. 15€/pers. Ce prix englobe la participation à la visite d'atelier. For years, wood artisans have thrived around the Faubourg Saint Antoine, outside of Bastille square. This tradition, along with furniture stores was still overwhelming until the end of the last century. Slowly, the workshops and manufactories give way to private lofts, bars and startups. Behind the opera, clubs and restaurants swarm, vibrant outposts of one of Paris's favorite night district. Despite the rents rise year after year, and most of the wood related shops have closed down or moved away, the neighborhood is full of beautiful and little known back alleyways and leafy private yards, where the sound of wood work can still be heard.
