Web Engineering is the discipline of building and improving the web or web apps. This includes everything like PHP, JavaScript, Go(lang), Elixir, Elm, SQL, Caching, Frontend, (agile) project management, humans / computer science, databases, programming, knowledge sharing with people of similar interests and everything else that is related to (web) development.

This talk sheds some light on a method to scale a single data team into a functional verticalized data platform. Next to some fundamental aspects, Mario will talk a bit from a recent experience implementing this model with the advantages and disadvantages that come along with it. The target audience is anyone from individual contributor to higher management. No prior knowledge is assumed, everything will be explained.About Mario Müller

In this talk we will look into the history and benefits of distributed SQL with a focus on OLTP. Main focus will be CockroachDB but we will also touch other solutions and compare them. Beside the technical architecture we will discuss typical use cases.About Emil Andreas Siemes
Emil A. Siemes is a long-term IT expert interested in building, running, and managing the next generation of distributed and data-driven web and mobile applications. After having worked at different companies like Sun Microsystems, VMware/Springsource, Hortonworks, Mesosphere & Google Emil joined Cockroach Labs where he helps customers on their journey to the wonderful world of distributed SQL. Emil has a master degree in Physics from Technical University Munich and wrote his Master thesis at the Max Planck Institute for Physics (Werner Heisenberg Institute) where he worked on the theory of supersymmetry.+++ How to get there +++
