Über uns

We are IT people, and we do care about humans. Mostly, we meet on Saturdays every 3 months to work on asylum data, worldwide and regional: Finding it, asking for it, making it accessible and making sense of it. There will also be talks in the evening in 2019. One established workflow is getting German asylum decisions numbers from the ministry and publishing it at https://refugee-datathon-muc.de , where you can also find more information. Our code is on github https://github.com/muc-fluechtlingsrat

We received an Elastic Cause Award from Elastic and were invited to the elasticon in San Francisco https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vy8ELXtJztI . We published articles in the German Linux Magazin http://www.linux-magazin.de/ausgaben/2018/12/daten-aufbereiten/ , and the Hinterland Magazine of the Bavarian Refugee Council http://www.hinterland-magazin.de/artikel/flucht-in-daten-und-zahlen/

Everybody is welcome: Nerds and Activists, Designers and Researchers. We use R, Elasticsearch, JavaScript, Python, Shell - whatever works for us. We get data from PDFs, APIs and Webpages. In every session, we discover something new. Being close to the refugee supporters is central to our work.
