Speakers & Talk Information
Denise Dejon: Using AWS for instant agricultural field monitoring
Over the past couple of years, the amount of freely available satellite data has grown significantly. The resulting increase in required storage capacity made it necessary to outsource the “in-house” storage and associated processing tasks. In this talk, Denise will show you how AWS Lambda is used to create a serverless processing chain for providing instant access to satellite-derived vegetation information for agricultural fields.

About Denise
Denise completed her master’s degree in Geoinformatics with focus on Remote Sensing at the University of Jena in 2018. One year later, she joined greenspin GmbH in the role of a remote sensing analyst and data scientist with a focus on geospatial data. Besides that, Denise is using machine and deep learning to conduct predictions regarding yield of different field crops, such as wheat and sugar beet. She started using AWS tools in 2020 and is always keen to learn anything related to data science, AWS or machine learning.

Henrik Fricke: Going functionless with AWS Step Functions
At clients, we often see AWS Step Functions as a utility to orchestrate Lambda functions, but we can certainly achieve more. With Step Functions, we can go functionless and integrate with AWS services directly. In this talk, I demonstrate a real-world example integrating with AWS DynamoDB and using the callback pattern to handle async operations.
