Who We Are:
Shorewalkers is a non-profit environmental hiking organization founded in 1982. Our mission is to promote and preserve New York City’s waterfront and raise awareness of its shorelines by leading invigorating hikes throughout the metropolitan area. Our signature event, The Great Saunter, is a 32-mile trek along Manhattan's shoreline, held annually on the first Saturday of May. Additionally, we host the Great Saunter Fall Challenge, a virtual event in early October.

- 🗽In Search of Fleet Week Parade of Ships🚢Staten Island Ferry Terminal, New York, NY
Let’s meet really early at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal for a river walk of indeterminate length to watch the Parade of Ships entering New York Harbor for Fleet Week 2025.
The Parade of Ships takes place roughly between 7:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. We'll walk at an easy pace, first staking out our viewing spot along the railing in Battery Park City, hanging out for an hour or so letting the excitement build, and then viewing ships from U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy as they pass the Statue of Liberty.
Then, we'll follow the fleet up the Hudson River, at least to Pier 57 for coffee and a rooftop view. The most intrepid, keeping with the theme, can walk up to the Intrepid at Pier 86.
Meet: Wednesday, May 21, 7:30 a.m., Staten Island Ferry Terminal, Whitehall Street (No. 1 South Ferry; R/W Whitehall-South Ferry)
Bring: Water, snacks, hat, sunblock and binoculars.
Restrooms: Please use the restrooms at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal before we start. Other restrooms open later along our route.
Exit Points: The M23 crosstown bus at Chelsea Piers/12th Avenue provides access to all subways. Same at Pier 84, where you can catch the M42 and M50 crosstown buses.
