The Importance of a Beginning, Middle and an End
Imagine reading Little Red Riding Hood, and the first thing that happens is that the wolf runs away forever! It would not make sense! We can apply the same lesson, of `beginning, middle and end,' in our public speaking! The consequences of not consciously developing a beginning, middle and end, are that our speech seems rushed, disordered, or we cannot simply get our point across. Lacking a beginning, middle and end, the audience would come away from any speech, unconvinced, feeling that something is somehow missing. Speaking is essentially, or can be, storytelling. The beginning of a speech should set the tone, as if a plot was being introduced. It should also introduce a contenion, which is the equivalent of the characters and their backgrounds. The middle of a speech, which is its body, should contain a variety of information, possibly delivered in a story-life manner, consistent with the introduction. Finally, the end of the speech could establish a feeling of confidence among your audience, that they have learned some new insight, tale or idea, and that they can even apply that information, in their own way, because they have learned some new way at looking at things. Tonight at Port Melbourne Toastmasters we take time to explore how YOU can employ the power of a beginning, middle and end in your own speaking! Join us at Port Melbourne Toastmasters (http://www.portmelbournetoastmasters.org/) for this Toastmasters meeting. This is the perfect place to overcome your public speaking nerves and improve your public speaking abilities. Book in now. Free for guests, members of our Meetup Group, and visiting Toastmasters.
