Could your product be causing harm — and you don't even know it?
From ChatGPT to self-driving cars to AI-generated video — technology is moving faster than our ability to think through the consequences.
As product people, being human-centred and empathetic isn't enough anymore. We need practical tools that help us surface harm before products go to market.
The good news? Those tools exist. The bad news? Most of us have never heard of them.
In this interactive session, we're skipping the theory and going straight to practice. You'll work in a small group to run through a real ethical design tool applied to a real product — from Spotify's own Ethics Assessment to the Black Mirror Brainstorm, Provocatype, Dichotomy Mapping, and more.
Every table gets a different tool and a different product. At the end, we compare notes across the room — and that's where the real learning happens.
What to expect:
- Networking, drinks and yummy food
- A fast, punchy intro to why ethical design tools exist and why they're not being used
- 30 minutes of hands-on group work with a real tool on a real product
- A full-room debrief comparing experiences across all six tools
- A practical framework for knowing which tool to reach for and when
You don't need any prior knowledge of ethics or ethical design. These tools were designed to be picked up and used without training - after this you'll find out if that's actually true.
Come ready to think uncomfortably. The best ethical design conversations start with questions nobody wants to ask.
