Strolling The Mall on an Autumnal Evening
Details
Join your fellow Adventurers for a pleasant autumn evening's stroll through the Mall.
Starting at 4:30 p.m. at the Foggy Bottom Metro Station near the top of the escalators, we will commence our approximately 4.3 mile walk heading down 23rd Street NW, passing the State Department, US Institute of Peace and the future site of the Desert Shield/Storm Memorial on our way to the Lincoln Memorial. We will marvel at the Reflecting Pool, where Jenny and Forest Gump had their famous cinematic reunion, before heading next door to the Vietnam War Veterans Memorial. Here we will briefly pause and let the gravity of the names on the Wall sink in. Next we will walk past the World War II Memorial on our way to the Washington Monument. The second half of our walk is completely flat as we head east, passing several major Smithsonian museums on our way to our conclusion at the Judiciary Square Metro Station. If you need to bail out early, you can use the Smithsonian Metro Station.
As there are no eateries on our walk, there will be the option to Metro back to Dupont Circle to socialize at Larry's Lounge or in one of the area's numerous restaurants.
The only thing participants need to partake in our autumnal adventure is $5. You don't need sturdy shoes, you don't need to have a car, you don't need hiking experience and you don't even need to be in good shape. ALL ARE WELCOME! Please come.
