Adventuring is an outdoors club for the LGBTQ+ community in the Washington DC Metro area. We're all about enjoying the outdoors and being physically active in a social setting.
Don't fret about your current fitness level or prior outdoors experience - we welcome everyone. We also coordinate carpools to help you get there economically.
Our trip fee is $5, plus any mileage reimbursement to drivers (if you participate in a carpool). There is no membership fee.

Snyder's Landing C&O Canal Hike
Forest Glen Metro Station, 2200 Forest Glen Road, Silver Spring, MD, USThe Chesapeake and Ohio Canal is a beautiful setting to welcome the changing colors of the fall season. For this trip, we'll head to Snyder's Landing, adjacent to Sharpsburg, Maryland and a stone's throw away from West Virginia. This section of the Canal is notable for its fetching views of the horseshoe bends of the nearby Potomac River and of course, its importance during the Civil War.
This 8.5-mile hike is rated as easy. An easy hike that is generally suitable for anyone who enjoys walking. Mostly level or with a slight incline. After the hike, we can take an optional trip into charming nearby Shepherdstown, West Virginia to refresh ourselves at a local establishment.
Bring beverages, lunch, snacks, sturdy footwear, and about $15 for transportation and Adventuring trip fees. Meet at 9:00 a.m. in the Forest Glen Metro Kiss & Ride lot. We'll make a stop at Sheetz on the way to the trailhead for any last-minute snacking needs. RSVPs will open two weeks before the event and close at 7pm the day before the hike.

Hiking Rock Creek Park: Dupont Circle to Silver Spring
Dupont Circle Metro Station Dupont Circle Metro Station , 1525 20th St NW, Washington, DC, USEnjoy the fall colors of Rock Creek Park as we hike about 9.5 miles from Dupont Circle to Silver Spring, MD on Sunday November 16.
Starting at noon from the northern exit of the Dupont Circle Metro Station @ 20th & Q Streets NW, we'll first head due west to find the Rock Creek Park Trail just off of the P Street Bridge. We will then proceed northward past the Zoo to Peirce Mill, where bathrooms/water will be available. We will then continue northbound on the Valley Trail to West Beach Drive in DC’s North Portal Estates Neighborhood, where we leave the Park via North Portal Drive. At 16th Street we will walk into Montgomery County MD and take Colesville Road to Wayne Avenue, next to the Silver Spring Transit Center. Our trek should end around 4 p.m. with beers/pub food at the Silver Branch Lagerhaus & Biergarten at 8401 Georgia Avenue, at the corner of GA and Wayne Avenues.
Difficulty: very moderate elevation gain (1 to 2%) incline on paved & dirt trail surfaces.
Bring beverages, snacks, and mud-worthy footgear. Dress in layers. This is a free event; the trip leader will pay the $5 Adventuring trip fee for all participants.

Signal Knob Circuit Hike
East Falls Church Metro, Kiss & Ride, 1900 N Sycamore St, Falls Church, VA, USA 10 mile circuit hike on Massanutten Mountain near Strasburg in the George Washington & Jefferson National Forests . Sweeping views from overlooks. The high point is Signal Knob, used as a signal relay station during the Civil War. Elevation gain 2300 feet.
We will stop at the Sheetz on your way (Sheetz, 15315 Washington St, Haymarket, VA 20169) the distance is about 144 miles round trip to the parking lot.

Now the warning: PLEASE DON’T SIGN UP FOR THIS HIKE UNLESS YOU’VE BEEN HIKING A LOT RECENTLY. This is not a beginner's hike, nor is it suitable for dogs. Bring plenty of beverages, lunch, sunscreen, bug spray and sturdy boots.
We will meet at 8:00 a.m. to form our carpool in the East Falls Church Metro Kiss & Ride lot. We will promptly leave at 815.
In addition to your hiking gear and plenty of water, please bring $5 for the Adventuring Trip Fee and a $12 carpool fee for your driver.
Effective immediately, Adventuring will waive the $5 trip fee for any federal employee or contractor who has been furloughed during the current Shutdown. Trip participants will still have to pay their share of transportation costs.

Point of Rocks: Where Trains Meet Canal Boats Hike
Rockville Metro Station, 251 Hungerford Drive, Rockville, MD, USWe start our hike in historic Point of Rocks, Maryland where a land rights battle between the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal and the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad companies ended up in court. The dispute? Who was the rightful owner of a small sliver of land between the Potomac River and a nearby mountain? Who won? The winner will be revealed during the hike as history unfolds before our eyes.
After our look into history, we'll continue northward along the canal to the scenic Catoctin Creek Aqueduct before returning to our cars. This 7-mile hike is rated as easy, which is generally suitable for anyone who enjoys walking. Mostly level or with a slight incline on a natural surface. After the hike, we may take an optional trip into Point of Rocks for light refreshments at a local establishment.
Bring water, lunch, snacks, sturdy footwear, and about $10 for transportation and Adventuring trip fee. Meet at 9:00 a.m., at the "west side" of the Rockville Metro station to form carpools. We'll gather at the Kiss & Ride lot on the of MD-355 side. On the way, we'll make a stop at Sheetz for any last-minute snacking needs. RSVPs will open two weeks before the event and close at 7 p.m. the day before the hike.
