What we’re about
Welcome to the Narragansett Chapter Meetup!
This Meetup is sponsored by the Narragansett Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club, but joining this Meetup Group does not automatically make you an AMC member.
We hope to introduce you to some of our wonderful outdoor opportunities, but there is much more to our chapter. Check us out at https://amc-narragansett.org!
You are welcome to sign up for any of our events and are not required to join the AMC, but, if you enjoy participating, we hope you will consider joining (click here). Become part of an organization that supports outdoor activities and conservation throughout the eastern US and more. Our slogan is "Be Outdoors".
AMC events are led by highly qualified, trained volunteers who are always concerned about safety. We take every precaution to ensure that participant risk is minimized and fun is maximized.

See all- AMC Blended Paddle (Kayak and Standup Paddleboard)Scalloptown Park, East Greenwich, RI
Please join us for an easy paddle in bucolic Greenwich Cove to celebrate the start of the paddling season and the AMC Narragansett Chapter’s Annual Spring Fling (separate registration).
Plan on a review of equipment and basic strokes, and easy going paddling along the perimeter of the Cove past the Goddard State Park Boat Launch Ramp to Long Point and back. Distance to cover- about 2 miles round trip. This paddle trip is rated Easy using the AMC difficulty rating system- see https://www.outdoors.org/outdoor-activities/difficulty-ratings.
Wind is always a key factor in paddling (esp. standup paddleboarding, and we expect it to be minimal given our mid-morning departure. High tide is at 12:22PM- we will paddle upstream and the tide will be generally slack.
We’ll meet at the foot of Crompton Ave (right off Rocky Hollow Road) in East Greenwich at the bottom of the hill near the handicapped access boat launch across from the L.L. Paddling Outpost trailer. There are a few parking spaces on the right and left sides of the road, and many more up the hill at the dog park. If you park up the hill, you can drop your kayak or SUP off at the launch pathway.
After returning, we will drive over to Goddard State Park (area G) via Old Forge Road and join the Spring Fling for refreshments and festivities. You are welcome to mix and mingle but note you must register separately for the event at AMC.
You will need your own kayak, SUP, and equipment for this excursion, including, paddles, leases, and personal flotation devices (PFDs). We may have access to an extra board or two so contact Mark for more information.
Please get there by 10:45AM so that we can get everyone squared away before our 11AM departure. You must wear a PFD on this trip. We also strongly recommend water shoes/booties, sunscreen, a hat, and of course, plenty of water.
You must register on the AMC website in advance. Start at https://activities.outdoors.org/search/. Select Narragansett from the Group menu and Paddling from the Activity menu, then hit the 'search" button. You will see the event and the "register" button. You will need to create an account with username and password but do not need to become a member. Everyone participating in this activity will need to complete a registration and Waiver/Release Form, including contact and emergency contact information.
Any questions just reach out to Mark at hozho108@gmail.com. Looking forward to a beautiful day on the water!
