Our March event is coming up, as usual on the last Wednesday of the month! We're back at our usual venue at the NAB Event Hub on 395 Bourke Street as well.

As a reminder, we will start with the food and socialising at 6 pm but the actual contents of the meetup (and live stream) will begin at 6:30.

And as usual, I'd like to point out that if you are attending online only, please do not RSVP, as we use the RSVPs for catering purposes. Similarly, if you realise you can't make it after all, please change your RSVP as we don't want food to go to waste.

For the evening itself, after we've eaten and socialised, we once again have two speakers. First up is Itamar Amith who will talk about fine-tuning lambda concurrency for SQS dequeuing. Our second speaker is Joshua Baker whose topic is around AD Domain Joining and Removal for Dynamic Workloads in AWS. And, of course, we'll finish the night with our Who's hiring segment.

Our thanks to CMD Solutions (cmdsolutions.com.au) for their continued sponsorship.

See below for the full agenda. The event will be streamed on YouTube as always: https://melb.awsug.org.au/live

# Fine tuning lambda concurrency for SQS dequeueing

* Itamar Amith

Level 400

Pairing SQS with Lambda provides us with a simple out of the box way to scale up our message processing. But what if we didn't want to spin up infinitely many new consumers to read messages from our queue? What if we have a downstream dependency which is much less scalable than us? How can we limit our lambda concurrency? The answer might surprise you. (Hint: It does not involve setting a lambda's Reserved Concurrency)

In this talk Itamar will go over our experience in solving the above problem, highlighting the limitations we've encountered with SQS, Lambda, and their integration.

# AD Domain Joining and Removal for Dynamic Workloads in AWS

* Joshua Baker

Level 300

Discussion on how to implement domain joining and removal for dynamic workloads in AWS. The talk will discuss how to automatically manage domain joining and removal in an AWS autoscaling group utilising serverless technologies and automations.

We are always looking for speakers and believe everyone has an interesting talk hiding inside themselves. If you are interested in letting that talk out at a future event you can get in touch at the meetup, on the website https://melb.awsug.org.au/speak/, or reach out to @arjen or @bok on our Slack.
