Melbourne AWS User Group #128
Details
Come along to our July meetup! It's on 26 July and at our usual location of the NAB Events Hub on 395 Bourke Street. We have a slightly different set of talks for you this month, but it should be really good.
As a reminder, we will start with the food and socialising at 6 pm, but the actual contents of the meetup (and live stream) will begin at 6:30.
And as usual, I'd like to point out that if you are attending online only, please do not RSVP, as we use the RSVPs for catering purposes. Similarly, if you realise you can't make it after all, please change your RSVP as we don't want food to go to waste.
For the evening itself, after we've eaten and socialised, we have our usual intros and overview of the news. And after that we've got two great talks lined up. We'll start with Andrew Murphy whose talk will not be AWS related, but covers debugging difficult conversations. This is followed by Melbourne's latest AWS Hero Michael Walmsley talking about building a Python serverless URL shortener. And, of course, we'll finish the night with our Who's hiring segment.
Our thanks to CMD Solutions for their continued sponsorship.
See below for the full agenda. The event will be streamed on YouTube as always:

# How I automated our monthly What’s New segment

Every month members of the User Group get up and talk about what’s been happening in the world of AWS… but have you ever wondered how the accompanying slide pack was built every month? If you guessed it was done by hand, you’d be wrong! This is the AWS user Group after all, why do something manually when you can get AWS to do it for you.
Join me as I walk you through the serverless platform that automatically scraps AWS for new announcements and generates not only the slide pack but also the speaker notes to go with it. Machine learning, serverless functions and even some hybrid config to boot!

# A Python Serverless URL Shortener for ALL your domains!
* Michael Walmsley
Level 200
Welcome to the world of building Serverless on AWS with Python. In this talk I will use my recent URL shortener project as a use-case of Serverless simplification and SAM template re-use so you can take it and deploy it many times to cover ALL your domain use-cases. We will explore things I find confusing about SAM Cli and Python (and how to fix them!), talk about AWS Powertools for Lambda and discover an AWS API Gateway V2 gem that I didn't know about until I was putting this together! After this session you should be able to go away and start building your own Serverless project - it may even involve URL shortening!

We are always looking for speakers and believe everyone has an interesting talk hiding inside themselves. If you are interested in letting that talk out at a future event you can get in touch at the meetup, on the website, or reach out to @arjen or @bok on our Slack.
