Melbourne AWS User Group #151 - August 2025

Details

🎉 Join us for the Melbourne AWS User Group Meetup on Wednesday 27 August! 🎉

As usual, we're back on the last Wednesday of the month in the NAB Events Hub on 395 Bourke. The past week has been a bit of a rollercoaster for weather, with warm sunny afternoons and very cold nights. But... can you feel the spring coming? My hayfever certainly can...

We currently have one talk lined up for this month, where Jason does a redux of his talk at the Sydney summit and will tell us all about various tools in AWS that are crucial to good operations. We're still finalising our second talk, so if you want to offer to speak we're willing to listen. And of course we also have our regular sections, covering what's going on in the community and what new goodies AWS has brought us in the past month.

As a reminder, we will start with the food and socialising at 6 pm, but the actual contents of the meetup (and live stream) will begin at 6:30.

Our thanks to Mantel Group for their continued sponsorship.

See below for the full agenda. The event will be streamed on YouTube as always.

## Pole Position with AWS Ops

  • Jason Wood

Level 200

AI is the new big thing, but in Operations, there are some great services that don't use AI! In this talk, I'll go through a few of my favourite AWS services to save you money, safely access your resources, and make sense of your alert messages. So, strap in, warm your tires, and come around the track with me.AI is the new big thing, but in Operations, there are some great services that don't use AI! ## Agents in Action: Build Cloud-Ready AI with AWS Strands

  • Dale Orders and Mahesh Pandey

Level 200

In this session, you’ll learn how to build AI agents using the new AWS Strands SDK. This toolkit makes it easy to create intelligent assistants powered by large language models such as Amazon Bedrock, OpenAI, and NVIDIA NIM.

We’ll start by building a single agent that can use tools, make decisions, and complete tasks. Then we’ll expand into multi-agent systems, where several agents work together to handle more complex workflows.

To finish, we’ll deploy these agents to the cloud with AWS Lambda, allowing them to run serverlessly and scale as needed. By the end, you’ll see how to design and launch a functional AI system made up of multiple agents working seamlessly using aws services.

We are always looking for speakers and believe everyone has an interesting talk hiding inside themselves. If you are interested in letting that talk out at a future event you can get in touch at the meetup, on the website (https://melb.awsug.org.au/speak/), or reach out to one of the organisers on our Slack.
