Grade: Easy/Moderate, around 6 miles on mostly flat canal towpaths

The Broad Water is a tranquil waterside haven along the Lagan Canal, perfect for a peaceful walk and enjoying nature's calm. We'll keep an eye out for the large variety of breeding and wintering wildfowl.

The Broad Water a 3 mile (4.8km) towpath walk from Ballycanal to Aghalee and takes you along the route of the original Lagan Canal through Soldierstown. The canal is a man made feature, built in a natural valley in order to retain a sufficient head of water to accommodate the navigation. Since the canal was officially abandoned in 1954 the banks have become overgrown and an array of colour is provided by a variety of trees, shrubs and wild flowers.

Wear walking shoes if you can, though trainers are ok for this walk, just be mindful there may be some puddles! Bring a rainjacket just in case.
