Lunch at Empower Cafe at WE Inc.

Join the group for lunch in support of a great organization. Empower Cafe is staffed by individuals with disabilities and barriers to employment. Empower Cafe is part of WE Inc. (Workshops Empowerment Inc.), which has operated for well over a century, training and employing people in various capacities, such as assembly, mailing, fulfillment, and handwork. They recently launched the cafe to expand their mission by preparing folks to work in restaurants, earn certifications such as ServSafe, and develop confidence communicating with the public.

We hear that the director is health-conscious and vegan, and that's why there are some great vegan options. Also, if you are familiar with the Beautiful Rainbow Cafe, a fully vegetarian and vegan Gadsden eatery with a similar mission, you'll be happy to know their team has given guidance and support to Empower Cafe.

The menu is getting revised and expanded in time for our lunch, but we have already been very impressed with the Vegan Reuben on Rosemary Focaccia and the Mexican Veggie Soup. Other enticing vegan dishes have included Avo Toast, Banana Oat Pancakes, Overnight Oats and Berries, Crispy Brussels, and Peanut Butter Pie.

The cafe also sells vegan-friendly batter mixes that they manufacture. It's easy to get to Empower Cafe and the WE Inc. building, located in the heart of Avondale.
