🐍 Canberra Python Meetup - Talk Writing Workshop
Details
Do you have a talk idea but you're not quite sure how to bring it to life? Perhaps you've built something cool, contributed something you're proud of, or you want to teach a topic you've been learning about!
Giving a talk at Canberra Python Meetup, or at PyCon AU 2026 is a great way to share your knowledge and tell your story!
We know presenting a talk can be daunting, especially if its your first time speaking in public. It's also a hugely rewarding experience and a great way to build your professional profile in the industry.
### Who should attend?
Everyone! More specifically this workshop is open to anyone who is interested in presenting a talk at Canberra Python Meetup or a conference like PyCon AU.
First time speakers are actively welcomed!
### Session Outline
This workshop will walk you through putting together a proposal, what is expected, what the PyCon AU program review committee is looking for. We will then spend some time helping you put together your talk.
This is a hands-on workshop. Bring your topic and talk ideas and we'll help you flesh out the proposal.
- Welcome & introduction
- Brainstorming talk ideas & overcoming writers block
- Writing an outline
- Actually write your outline
- Share your abstracts (optional)
- Tips & tricks for polishing your talk
### Submit your talk to PyCon AU 2026 CFP
You'll also get to meet the team who review talk proposals and select talks for the conference program. They're friendly, we promise! ☺️
Attending this workshop is free, and you have no obligation to submit or speak or present if you don't want to.
### Takeaways
At the end of this workshop you'll have a talk title, abstract and description ready to submit to both PyCon AU 2026, and to present at Canberra Python Meetup later this year.
