Canterbury, Ashford and Sandwich Jive Classes

Ashford’s weekly night of vintage music and dance, an evening of swing dancing with music from the 1920s to the 1950s. We will be moving temporarily to the Elwick Club on Wednesday 10th June for a few months whilst the Ashford Cinema our regular venue has a refit.

7pm-9.45pm each Wednesday:

7pm-7.30pm: Beginner’s 1940’s/50’s style jive class, a dance class perfect for anyone with no dance experience.

7.30pm-7.45pm: Music for practice

7.45pm-8.15pm: Intermediate 1940’s/50’s style jive class, moves for dancers with some experience

8.15pm-9.45pm: Social dance. A mix of 1920’s Charleston, 1930’s and 1940’s Swing Music, Jump Jive and Western Swing and 1950’s Rock and Roll, Doo Wop and Rockabilly.
Entry for the whole evening:

£7/£6 reduced (unemployed, retired, student or NHS staff) per person, cash only, paid on entry.

Dance partner not needed as there is an option to circulate during the classes.

Weekly drop-in 1940’s/50’s style jive class. Aimed at all levels, beginners always welcome, optional dance partner swapping so you can join without a partner.

£6/£5 reduced (unemployed, retired, student or NHS) per person per class. Cash on the door.

If you’ve not been before come about 30 minutes early to your first class and we’ll run through the steps we’ll be teaching in the main class.
