Choose Your Movie: SORRY, BABY vs FANTASTIC FOUR at the Gateway Film Center!

Join us as we get together to see your choice of the A24 dark comedy / drama SORRY, BABY or the fun superhero adventure, THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS! SORRY, BABY (which is generating a bit of low-level Oscar buzz) follows a woman who tries to recover from a past event. The film premiered to rave reviews at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Screenwriting Award! THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS takes us to a 1960’s inspired retro-futuristic parallel Earth which is being defended by our titular heroes! Should be a winner either way! I'll plan to see SORRY, BABY but we should have a good group of friendly CMG'ers for BOTH films! Here are details, trailers and our plan for this event:

SORRY, BABY: The film follows a young woman and college professor named Agnes. When something bad happens, life goes on - for everyone around her, at least. The film is written / directed by Eva Victor and produced by Barry Jenkins. Eva Victor also stars alongside Naomi Ackie and Lucas Hedges. BUZZ AND ACCLAIM: Sorry, Baby premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 27, 2025, where it won the Screenwriting award and received widespread critical acclaim. It later served as the closing film of the Directors' Fortnight section at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Critics Award at the Seattle International Film Festival! It is currently earning a stellar 97% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which says: "Carrying off difficult subject matter with a light touch and wry sense of humor, Sorry, Baby triumphantly announces writer-director and star Eva Victor as a formidable talent." THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS: Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, the film follows the Fantastic Four as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer. The film is directed by Matt Shakman and features a stellar ensemble cast that includes Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ralph Ineson, Julia Garner, Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne and Sarah Niles.
