What we’re about
There are a lot of sci-fi and fantasy clubs, but this one is specifically for fems and thems (but open to all friendly folx and allies) who love science fiction, fantasy, gaming, and more geeky goodness. Engage in conversation about creative works and activities with others who share a common interest in things like parallel worlds, speculative futures and alternative histories.
While we started in 2018 as a book club, we have since branched out into a variety of fun stuff. There's a monthly book club, but also a discord with opportunities for things like watch-alongs and extended discussion with new friends. We are intentional about the spaces we create and the media we share, with a focus on reading books, playing games, and featuring discussions on underrepresented creators and characters. We welcome anyone who wants to share more media created by women, LGBTQ+ folx, and authors who are Black, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Latinx, and international authors who expand our perspectives beyond our headquarter state of Texas.
Our organizers set the intention of making every event a safe space for people to share and be themselves. All are welcome to come and geek out with us!

What is this thing? It’s our monthly virtual watch party! For Avatar: The Last Airbender! We’ll watch the next 3 episodes and then have some social time afterwards to discuss the eps/show and whatever’s interesting y’all these days (Sci-Fi, Fantasy, RPGs, LGBTQ+ goodies, pop culture, you-name-it). Before we dive into the episodes, we’ll introduce ourselves so everyone gets a chance to share who they are and say hi.
Whether you’re a diehard Avatar: The Last Airbender fan or a first-time viewer, we hope you can hangout for a little!
Episodes we will watch:
- S3.E10 ∙ The Day of Black Sun
- S3.E11 ∙ The Day of Black Sun, Part 2: The Eclipse
- S3.E12 ∙ The Western Air Temple
Didn't catch any of the other episodes with us? That's okay! Avatar is easy to jump into and get your bearings. Plus, we can watch the "previously on" section of show to ensure you get a summary on what the gang got up to last time.
Where is it taking place? This event will take place on our Discord server, in the Watch Party voice channel. I will share the link with attendees the day of the event via email. On Discord, I will share my screen and make the magic happen.
I'm on the waitlist... Now what? Day of the event, we tend to see some folks update their RSVP to no. You could get access to the event as a result. If you do, feel free to leave a comment here and ask for the Discord link. I'll message you.

Here's a description of from the publisher's website:
Earth is a distant memory. Habitable extrasolar planets are still out of reach. For generations, humanity has been clinging to survival by establishing colonies within enormous vacuum-breathing space beasts and mining their resources to the point of depletion.
Rash, dreamy, and unconventional, Seske Kaleigh should be preparing for her future role as clan leader, but her people have just culled their latest beast, and she’s eager to find the cause of the violent tremors plaguing their new home. Defying social barriers, Seske teams up with her best friend, a beast worker, and ventures into restricted areas for answers to end the mounting fear and rumors. Instead, they discover grim truths about the price of life in the void.
Then, Seske is unexpectedly thrust into the role of clan matriarch, responsible for thousands of lives in a harsh universe where a single mistake can be fatal. Her claim to the throne is challenged by a rival determined to overthrow her and take control—her intelligent, cunning, and confident sister.
Seske may not be a born leader like her sister, yet her unorthodox outlook and incorruptible idealism may be what the clan needs to save themselves and their world.

Traduttore, traditore: An act of translation is always an act of betrayal.
1828. Robin Swift, orphaned by cholera in Canton, is brought to London by the mysterious Professor Lovell. There, he trains for years in Latin, Ancient Greek, and Chinese, all in preparation for the day he’ll enroll in Oxford University’s prestigious Royal Institute of Translation—also known as Babel.Babel is the world's center for translation and, more importantly, magic. Silver working—the art of manifesting the meaning lost in translation using enchanted silver bars—has made the British unparalleled in power, as its knowledge serves the Empire’s quest for colonization.
For Robin, Oxford is a utopia dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge. But knowledge obeys power, and as a Chinese boy raised in Britain, Robin realizes serving Babel means betraying his motherland. As his studies progress, Robin finds himself caught between Babel and the shadowy Hermes Society, an organization dedicated to stopping imperial expansion. When Britain pursues an unjust war with China over silver and opium, Robin must decide…
Can powerful institutions be changed from within, or does revolution always require violence?
