Veganism Is Anti-Oppression & Solidarity Across Species with APEX Advocacy
2414 6th St, Berkeley, 2414 6th St, Berkeley, CA, USAt this week’s Meetup come hear from Yasmin Badshamiah (she/they) who is the Director of Communications at APEX Advocacy. Yasmin will be talking with us about veganism as a liberation practice, unlearning colonial habits in mainstream veganism, and what becomes possible when animal liberation is built in relationship with other liberation struggles. Yasmin Badshamiah will introduce APEX Advocacy’s approach to animal justice and invite folks to get closer to what we’re building at APEX. Q&A to follow.
More about the speaker: Yasmin is a NorCal-based writer, mother, long-time vegan, and strategist, Yasmin builds narrative power for total liberation. After working inside traditional animal rights communications, Yasmin stopped trading truth for palatability and defanged politics. At APEX, they shape language for animal justice that keeps us whole and moves people into solidarity with all beings. Yasmin's organizing spans mutual aid, Palestine advocacy, youth work, and cultural event production. They co-created a California Arts Council–funded queer youth poetry + spoken word program and served as a core facilitator for APEX’s 2025 Pre Animal Activist Week BIPOC convening.

Petco - Stop Selling Animals!
2308 S Shore Ctr, Alameda, CA 94501-5760, United States, 2308 S Shore Ctr, Alameda, CA, USJoin us in demanding that Petco stop selling animals!
Most people shop at Petco because they care for animals. They may have no idea that the animals on the store’s shelves come from horrifically cruel breeding mills and some species are even kidnapped from their habitats in the wild. Shockingly, the majority of animals bred and shipped to pet stores die before they even reach the store shelf.
Selling animals is costing millions of them their lives. Animals are not commodities and Petco must stop treating them as such!
When: Sunday, April 19th 12noon
Where: Meet outside of MOD Pizza at 2308 S Shore Center, Alameda, CA
Accessibility: We will walk a short distance from the meeting location to the store where we will mostly be standing for about an hour.If you would like to learn more about this campaign and get involved in the Bay Area to help end the retail sale of animals in pet stores please sign up at dxe.io/adoptdontshop and take action at dxe.io/actionsteps

SACRAMENTO: The Truth About Grimmius Cattle Co. Outreach Event
2006 J St, Sacramento, CA 95811, 2006 J St, Sacramento, CA, USPlease join us for an outreach event to raise awareness about the standard cruelty of the dairy industry. We will be focusing on "calf-raising" operations in California, like the Grimmius Cattle Co.
Every single day, newborn calves are ripped from their mothers and shipped to facilities like Grimmius to be raised for the dairy and beef industries.
A DxE investigation documented the rough handling of newborn calves and their intensive confinement in small, barren hutches for the first few months of their lives—when they are at their most vulnerable.
We will show this evidence to the public and advocate for these animals through conversations.
At this event, we will:
* Show DxE’s investigation footage from Grimmius Cattle Co. on a TV screen
* Hold peaceful one-on-one conversations with the public about the reality of the dairy industry
* Distribute informational materials---
