RPG Game Master Workshop - Tools to Reward Roleplay (D&D and more)
Details
Hello DMs, GMs, MCs, newbies, and veterans! Want to get players more engaged with their characters' motivations and relationships? Party interactions that are more complex than just relaying information or passing out torches?
This is an *online presentation and discussion of several tools that can be bolted onto most RPG systems to reward players for good roleplay and story telling. It will be part lecture, part audience-participation examples, part Q&A.
What even are "Role Playing Tools"? In this context: non-combat game mechanics that give in-game rewards like buffs, xp, inspiration, etc.
- Blue Book - PC (Player Character) perspective session summaries and short backstory vignettes.
- Connections - Bonds between PCs that build at the end of each session/adventure.
- Downtime - Scenes between adventures, while travelling, long rests, etc.
- Flags - Player requests for specific types of interactions that other PCs can enable and encourage.
- Knives - Players provide specific character fears, connections, and complications for the GM to leverage in game.
- Paint the Scene - GM asks directed but open-ended questions to the players about what they see in a new location.
- Love Letters - What happened since last time? But with a roll that has consequences!
While this event is designed for the people who run RPGs, players who want to use or bring these to the table are encouraged to join!
* Event will be on the D&D of the South Bay discord server in the "Meetup Chat 1" channel. Join here! https://discord.gg/UrTTHq8
