Our sister meetup, Sydney Machine Learning is proud to partner with Strong Compute to host teams for a hard core weekend to make the best Chess playing AI. In order to win you will have to blend the best of human intuition, historical player data & bring your own cutting edge techniques
Prize: winning teams will receive one of Strong Compute’s $10-100K grants for open source AI research - or further developing open chess models.
Task: Train a language model to play chess.
Dataset: Public dataset of training game “Portable Game Notations” (PGNs) from Leela Chess Zero. An example data loading pipeline will be provided. You can use this or source your own.
Models: Must be character-level generative language models. Example models will be provided, or you can develop your own. Models must be trained from scratch during the competition weekend.
Compute: access to multiple 48x 24GB Ampere clusters and dedicated GPU workstations on the Strong Compute Instant Super Computer platform.
Budget: compute credits provided during the competition.
Judging: each team’s model will play off in a tournament to determine the competition winner.
