🌿 Spandex fitness Social Stroll: 1000 Steps + Bellview Terrace - This is a Difficult Walk

Due to overwhelmingly popular demand here it goes again for those unable to get on the first one

### Before considering going on this hike make sure you read the group rules section at the end ###

Ready to swap the treadmill for towering gums and skyline views? Join us for a 10km (feels like 15km due to vertical gain) adventure through the iconic 1000 Steps Kokoda Memorial Walk and the sweeping heights of Bellview Terrace. With the included circuit we do the equivalent of 2 sets of the 1000 steps, each set is 260m of vertical gain

This isn’t a bootcamp—it’s a social saunter. Think more talkies than walkies: a relaxed pace, plenty of banter, and photo stops to soak in the Melbourne cityscape and coastal horizon. There is some rough and slippery sections of the track so hiking shoes or runners are highly recommended.

🚉 Meeting Options

Public Transport Crew: Once you get to the Upper Ferntree Gully Station, turn left from the subway and walk alongside the train tracks on the easy walking track to the start of the 1000 steps, i.e. at the 1000 Steps cafe, a 15 minute (1.4km) walk away.

Car Crew: Meet us at the start of the walk at the 1000 steps cafe , just in from the car park at Ferntree Gully Picnic Ground.

** Meet us at the 1000 Steps cafe at 10.15 a.m for a 10.30 AM start** We won't wait for stragglers after 10.30 AM, so please be on time.

🧴 Essentials to Bring

  • Sunscreen (shade is patchy, and the Aussie sun is fierce!)
  • Water (hydration = happiness)
  • Comfortable clothes and shoes (spandex optional, but encouraged for maximum vibe)
  • Sun hat
  • Comfortable clothes for a hot workout
  • Hiking shoes/Runners are best
  • Snacks to keep your energy levels up. Electrolytes and sweets if it's hot to keep your salts and sugars good

☕ The Grand Finale
We’ll finish back at the base, winding down at one of the cafes near the trailhead—perfect for a coffee, smoothie, or cheeky slice of cake after our shared adventure.

Expectations
✨ Expect laughter, light sweat, and stunning views. This is less about conquering the climb and more about connecting, exploring, and enjoying the journey together.
This should take around 3 to 4 hours depending on the laughter factor. Please ensure wiggle room around your schedule as it's a guide more than a timetable.

Note: It gets busy, and full of the spandex bunch with a time goal, things should quiet down when we loop around one tree hill and head down via the terrace and other tracks on the circuit. We'll go at a relaxed pace about 3 to 4 km/hr.

Group Rules and Track Etiquette
Fitness Requirements:
This is a very difficult hike for those who are unfit. We will be walking the equivalent of 2 X 1000 steps and what feels like the equivalent of 15km on what can be rough and slippery ground in sections.

Please ensure you can walk between 3 and 4km/hr and 200m vertically in an hour. If you regularly do 10,000 steps in a day, this is good training. Be mindful if you're not fit, its not fair on the group to wait extended periods for you. I may ask you to exit the event if this is the case.

People who walk very fast and prefer walking by themselves
As a group activity I can't manage the group if it splits up, please consider going by yourself or joining a fast walkers group.

If people have time constraints
Best to give yourself some wiggle room, Things rarely go to time due to various factors especially in big groups. If you have very specific time goals and constraints it's best not to come.

+++VERY IMPORTANT+++
People who do a No Show.
This is toxic and unfortunately too common for small group events, especially when we have people in a waitlist wanting to come on the event. Remove yourself from the going list 24 hours before the event starts to give people on the waitlist an opportunity. If you do a No Show you will be removed and blocked from the group.

If you remove yourself from the event an hour or two before the event (flaking) you may also be blocked and removed from the group as this is also unfair to people on the waitlist. Please communicate with me if you do not want to be blocked and removed from the group.

People who turn up without registering
This is a major security concern, DO NOT DO THIS.You will be asked to leave the event unless you have made arrangements with the organiser PRIOR to the event.

People who are late
You will be left behind and or removed and blocked from the group as a No Show. It is your responsibility to communicate with me if to think you will be late otherwise you will be blocked and removed from the group. It is up to you to catch up and or attempt to communicate with me.
