What we’re about
This is a group for hiking all around El Dorado county. Both locals and non-locals welcome. Varied days/times, varied lengths and difficulties -- from casual walks to mountains. Varied locations too, but usually on the western slope. Hikes are usually posted a few days to a week before they happen. Pick the events that work for your schedule/interest.
The hikes are free, with free parking as well, except when otherwise noted.
Rules:
- No dogs allowed now. Unfortunately, although the dogs were nice, their owners created too many liability issues by refusing to follow the law and risking the safety of people, dogs and wildlife in and out of the group.
- If you can't make it, change your RSVP -- even if you don't know until 1 minute before the meetup start time, change your RSVP at that time so that we don't wait around for you.
- If there are people RSVPed who haven't arrived yet, we'll generally wait 5 minutes (sometimes longer depending on the circumstances).
- If there's a wait list for a meetup, people with a history of no shows will be removed to make room for those more likely to attend. When there's a wait list, please try to update your RSVP at least a day in advance if you can't make it.

See all- Red Shack TrailRed Shack Trailhead, Placerville, CA
Red Shack Trail (aka Old Flume Trail) is an easy mile down to the river through beautiful forest, followed by a challenging mile back up (800 feet elevation change). Then we'll try to add on another mile or two I've been told exists but haven't done before, for a total of around 4 miles. Should still be some good flowers.
The trailhead parking lot is across the street from the red shack, where the road curves like an upside down U. About halfway between Placerville and Coloma.
